Yes, it has got a tyre edge dynamo and these are still very much current and often used in mainland Europe. Very different from the old high drag ones of yesteryear though, major cycle lighting people like Bausch & Muller make excellent very low drag models, at a price though.

This is as a result of the German lighting regulations.

Spotted this on ebay today and though it's an expensive way to get an 8Fun motor-driven bike, I think it's a smart machine in that majestic Dutch style.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but isn't that an old-fashioned dynamo I see in one of the pics? I haven't seen a new bike with one of those in years and didn't realise they were still in use.

Indalo, if the spec uses a rear hub motor and derailleur gears then the front hub is available to accept a dynamo. But if the spec uses Shimano Nexus internal hub which obviously must go in the rear wheel then the motor has to go in the front wheel,no space left for the dynamo so the rim edge dynamo is the only option. All this is necessary in Germany to meet the requirements of their unique lighting regulations which makes a dynamo obligatory. Clever these Germans make a set of European wide regs that we all have to comply with(EN 15194) then invent a set of regs in your own country to make it difficult for other countries to sell into your home market-TUV is effectively a trade barrier into Germany.
We should make a UK kite symbol that every German car has to comply, charge a fortune to achieve the kite mark and specify that all cars have to have special RHD features. But of course the Germans will cry foul and our government will back down.

It is interesting that we bring ally wheels in from China with special Japanese standard,as used by Toyota. The Germans have to accept this standard otherwise no Toyota could be sold in Germany,my German agent hates buying these wheels from us but has no choice otherwise he is not competitive. However,a similar wheel made in the UK cannot be sold in Germany because the UK manufacturer cannot afford the TUV certification-economic madness!
