A serious hill climb.....

He was towed up with a rope. What's that proving? And even then, you didn't see him on the steep bit.

Well, I don't know about 'Brain of Britain' but it certainly confused me!

I was left thinking that there was obviously lots of explanation of what was going on - unfortunately as it was in German it meant little to me.

3m 19s to 3m 42s, clearly climbing without any rope, including the steep part.

Looks good to me , the rope is only taking up the tension, Bit like mountain climbing .
If you have ever seen the ski jumps , they are scary steep .

And the rider was putting in most of the power by the looks of it, I would be more impressed if he was seated and they showed him climbing the whole way.

When I rode the Haibike up the rather steep test hill at Presteign, it was a lot better than the 250w hub-motors of the day and the 26v Panasonics, but there's no way in the world any of us would get it up that ski slope, and it's not a patch on a 500w Bafang or MAC for climbing ability.

There was a lot of careful editing in that video, so it was intentionally difficult to see what was happening. Why didn't they show it from bottom to top like this one? I strongly suspect that they only did a few meters at a time and never made it to the top. It's all hype and some of you have fallen for it.

Here's another one with no hype that shows what a fit person can do without a tow rope:

Heavens sake it was an advert! But still an achievement.....So take it with a pinch of salt and less grumbling?

I found this, it’s in German I think so not sure what he is saying but I think the video gives an idea of the bikes ability.

A perfect example of why these Bosch powered bikes has opened up e cycling to a whole new younger audience interested in off road work. Have said this before, but our Bosch bike gets us places we could never imagine previously...

I now laugh at hills of Tuscany!:p Ha Ha.....ha ha ha:D

It may be the bike in the video had the higher power version of the Bosch motor, called in some markets at least, a '45' because of the number of km/h it will do.

The track looks a lot like the off roading I did on the local mountain on the weekend, I got a weird look or two from the occasional MTB rider as I was riding the Tonaro Esprit with panniers and rack bag :).
A lot of the steep stuff was done on medium assist to keep the front wheel on the ground.
This is where the crank drives excel as the motors are still running in the "sweet" zone, and power consumption is still quite low.

A decent MTB is definitely needed for going on terrain like that. Is that a full-sus version in the video (didn't see the full bike in the first few mins) ? I did notice a heck of a lot of panting from the commentator a few minutes in - no doubt less than if he's been riding unpowered but still a fair bit !
