now that i have got myself a proper offroad ebike, i am looking for a road bike to match.
main priority is range, followed by weight.
i want to go far and it not to be too hefty. pedal assist if possible.
any reccommendation greatly appreciated.

might be an idea to add what you have to a signature. If you have a crank drive I would say a bike with "Go-swiss drive" light, silent and some with this direct drive motor have large battery's. Bulls green mover for one... 10/13/16 Ah battery's

Pedelec, 26 volt Panasonic unit Kalkhoff with the 24 Ah battery, still quite light, huge range potential and also easy to pedal even without power. Or negotiate buying one of the similar but very light BH-emotion models without the battery and buy the 24 Ah Kalkhoff battery for it separately.

Alternative hub motor bike, an eZee model from their range with their custom dual battery setup having similar capacity.

if by road bike you mean drop handlebar sport or a hybrid tourer style you need to clarify..

If you already have a bosch powered bike, and its a hybrid you want, you have a spare battery already with the potential of excellent range, coupled with a 1.5 hr fast charger.

26v Panasonic old hat....
