My Bafang 8FUN QSWXK front motor http://coolmainpress.com/BICYCLINGbuildingpedelec1.html has clocked out after four years on the hills of West Cork, so y'all are cordially invited to follow with me the installation of the Bafang 8FUN BBS01 midmotor I've ordered. I'll report on the destruction of the old motor later, and on the installation of the BBS midmotor.

For the moment I just want to say that, when UPS, as per usual, messed up picking up the parcel and lost two whole days (!), my dealer, Eclips Ebikes www.eclipsebikes.com drove to the local depot at 6.30 in the evening to rescue my parcel and then made a 40 mile round trip to the UPS regional depot to put it on the truck.

That's service over and above. You can't ask for more from a dealer. All hail to Eclips Ebikes.

You could ask for a lot more from bloody UPS. Considering that it's almost May, and how the weather this year has gone, UPS has cost me probably 5% of the good cycling weekends in the entire year. A curse on UPS.

More on the death of the QSWXK and the installation of the BBS01 follows in due course.

BAFANG BBS MIDMOTOR KIT PARTS & HYDRAULIC BRAKE SENSORS/CUTOUTS ILLUSTRATED

For those who want to perve the new gear I've ordered but not yet received, I bought the full bolt-in kit plus the special optional cutouts for my Magura rim hydraulic brakes.

Bafang 8Fun BBS01 Mid Drive 36V 350W Motor Kit:

Summary specs at http://eclipsebikes.com/bafang-8fun-bbs01-drive-350w-motor-p-1101.html

The experts here who want know where the motor controller is will delighted to hear it is inside the motor case, cutting down on those wretched wires running around all over the bike.

Bafang 36V/48V BBS01 / BBS02 Hydraulic Brake Sensors:

More info at http://eclipsebikes.com/bafang-36v48v-bbs01-bbs02-hydraulic-brake-sensors-p-1109.html

110 PCD CHAINRING ADAPTER FOR BAFANG BBS MIDMOTOR?

Does anyone know how many 110mm spiders for the BBS01/02 are available? Are there any available in Europe? The Californian one seems outrageous expensive.

There's a Rohloff gearbox on my bike, so I need a 54mm chain line. I'd like to use the 38T 110PCD Surly stainless steel ring I already have, and further require clearance for the Hebie Chainglider I use to keep maintenance on my bike very low indeed, like once every 5000km/3000m.

SPACE FOR CABLES BETWEEN BOTTOM BRACKET SHELL AND BAFANG BBS MOTOR HOUSING?

Can someone with a Bafang 8FUN BBS midmotor installation please measure how much clearance there is between the installed motor housing and the bottom bracket shell.

My bike, a Utopia Kranich, has beautifully machined guides for the two Rohloff gear gables, the hydraulic tube for the rear brake, and the electric lead for the rear lamp, all down the underside of the downtube and under the bottom bracket shell.

I need to know whether there is space between the motor housing and the bottom bracket shellf for these cables or whether I should rewire them (a big nuisance and expense) before my BBS motor arrives.

there is enough space between the motor housing and the bottom bracket for your gear cables but not much more.

Thanks, Trex. I won't move them then, because rewiring the Rohloff cables was truly described by Chalo Colina when he called it "odious".

Good man ..much appreciated .
I'm also considering one of the new GSM motors from whoosh as they are cheaper but apparently much the same . I'm a bit concerned re the Bafang unit as I've read if you need spares it's almost impossible and as such some dealers are no longer selling because they can't repair so once outside the year warranty you're pretty much buggered ? Don't know whether it'll be the same with the GSM?.
Was going to get a 750 bbs02 but I just daren't as i lost my licence recently which together with arthritic knees brought me to ebikes. If I got caught hurtling along or had an accident my driving licence would be virtually worthless.!
Not to mention insurance !
all the best

Spares are available from various sources. Here's a couple:

http://www.greenbikekit.com/accessories/bafang-8fun-spare-parts.html?p=1

http://dillengerelectricbikes.co.uk/spares/bafang-8fun.html

Simple maintenance on the BBS01/02 can be done by anyone who knows basic maintenance of pedal bikes, but the more complex repairs are not for the fainthearted.

If you're good with mechanical stuff Bill, then I see no problem in fixing it yourself outside of warranty.

Yo, Dave, I also had a good experience shopping at EM3-EV http://em3ev.com in China; I shopped with them for the first time since they had the lefthand throttle in stock and therefore bought the 44T chainring that is Hebie Chainglider compatible from them too.
