Hi to all

I have a 'Dutch' style bike which I would like to convert to electric - really only for getting up two steep hills at the beginning and end of my ride to work. I already have a front wheel (sourced from Cyclotricity) and am looking for a battery. I could buy their carrier rack battery but I feel the colour difference of their carrier rack would spoil the look of the bike. I was wondering if there wasn't an alternative battery I could fit to my existing carrier so that I can keep the 'look' (pic attached).

Really glad to find this forum!

ps. I am fairly handy with power tools :)IMG_20171112_143534_small.jpg

Vinyl wrap of a carrier rack battery pack will give you almost any colour you want and there’s a place along Scotstoun Road who might do it for you. Or paint it - preparation of the aluminium surface needs care. It’s not difficult, my car’s got an aluminium body.

Thank you for the 'soft shell' suggestion. Do you have any rcommendations with regards to brand?

With regard to the (absence of) rear brake - yes, it is a roller brake.

Thanks also for the paint/vinyl suggestion. My concern is the colour (usually black) of the rack, not so much the battery. Is it possible to buy a battery that comes ready-made for securing onto an exisiting rack, like mine?

You don't need a rack if you get the right battery. Most of the ones that come with a rack have a receiver bolted to the rack. You can remove the receiver and bolt it to your own rack. Alternatively, there's loads of rack batteries on Aliexpress that have just the battery and it's receiver like this one. You can see the slots in the receiver that are used to bolt it to your rack. Obviously, you'll need to drill some steel strips to act as clamps:

Thank you so much. I really like this idea! One concern is that Aliexpress doesn't seem to offer any guarantees (that I can see). Is that something I should worry about?

If you want guarantees, forget about converting your bike. Go and get a Pendleton from Halfords. they work perfectly. If you want to keep your present bike because you like the way it looks, get some of these and hang it on the wall in your living room. You'll need some of those colour-matched picture things to go with it for best effect:
