Battery Question

The battery on my Alien Ocean GS1 will no longer even manage 7 miles (my round trip to work) before it is drained.

I only bought it at the start of August last year and it only got used for my 35 mile weekly commute for about 3 months until I got my Galileo back on the road. After that it has been mainly rested probably going out once a fortnight for a short trip. I have always charged the battery every evening after I've been out on it. All in all it has done 750 miles over a period of 8 months.

So my question is whether or not this is a reasonable life expectancy for a 36V Lion battery, or could it be faulty?

That isn't reasonable for one of today's lithium batteries, even with harsh use they should do at least 18 months before losing 40% of range at most.

Even though it might be beyond warranty, I think you should claim on the basis of unreasonably short life.

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines.

I think what has happened is that I bought one of the last GS1 bikes and the battery was probably quite old by that point anyway. I'm more convinced of this by the fact that others have quoted the battery range for the GS2 way beyond what my GS1 could do when I first got it, and as far as I can tell they are effectively the same battery, probably from the same source. If this isn't the case then I think all these GS2 purchasers are going to be in for a rude awakening in a few months time!

I'll ask Jim about it and see what he says. Thanks for the input.

The battery is different apparantly between GSI and II, the GSII having inbuilt BMS...so I'm told.
