Hi, my BBSHD started to make a loud clicking noise and no drive. Took it apart and the freewheel pawl was a bit knackered.

Put a new one in, same result. The axle assembly, round plate, the bearing, then pawl, seem to move out around half an inch toward where the chain wheel would be. Maybe a blown bearing ? Any help gratefully recieved,

Cheers,

G

So you found the pawl damaged, but did you inspect the driven spline into which the pawls engage? I’ve had to replace the splined part on two different bbsxx’s

Not sure a clutch problem would explain your axial play issue though - could the retaining circlip have become unseated?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Replaced the pawl and that was not the problem. Ran the motor with cover off and a loud clicking noise is coming from the drive. Could this be the nylon gear having a moment?

Cheers,

Doesn't seem likely because the motor and nylon gear spin very fast compared with the crank. When it's damaged you loose drive completely.

Don’t be tempted to use the motor until all mechanical noises are resolved

You’ll have to troubleshoot yourself- repeat the motor spin test after incrementally removing drive gears etc - eventually the culprit will reveal itself
