Hi All

I hope you are well.

Just a quick note to say that the BEBA website has been updated with some new members. More to come as and when we receive their information.

Many thanks
Mark

Thanks Mark, Electrifying Cycles, PowaRider and Electric Transport Shop seem to be missing?

We have another 22 companies that have applied to join BEBA they are currently in the process of being considered or we are awaiting payment. If all join we will have 34 full/retail members and 4 associates, not massive yet however I feel this is a good start and a representative cross section of the industry.

Hi Mark and thank you for that.

I'd like to record my disappointment and surprise that so many "big names" in the business including some frequent contributors to the forum don't appear in your updated list. Even taking account of David Miall's additional comments, there are some glaring omissions from the list as it appears right now.

As simply an ordinary punter, it doesn't really affect me whether a trader pays to benefit from the publicity engendered through the forum or not. I would have thought, however, that those who are fully paid-up BEBA members might be a tad annoyed at seeing competitors gain publicity for free and without subscribing to the ethical code drawn up by the association.

If I should be looking to purchase a new bike soon, I know where I'll be spending my money!

Maybe the fees are too high? If it costs 20K a year to belong to BEBA, I'd understand some reluctance but if it's only 29/11d a month, there's no reason not to belong.

Hi Indalo, may I make some comments on your post to Mark?

We too are disappointed that we do not have the backing of the entire industry, however we do understand the reasons. Some have indicated that they will not join due to the rather tough code of practice, in particular they do not like the fact that BEBA would become involved with any dispute between supplier and end user. Others will only be selling on the internet and therefore do not qualify. Please wait before you make judgement though, we are getting new members applying every week. As you know Mark and I have been helping to Drive BEBA forward, we strongly believe the industry needs a voice. I must admit to being amazed at how negative some people are, we are simply trying to promote the use of electric bikes in the UK and help determine legislation. There is no ulterior motive.

I undertand your point but unfortunately there are always those who are happy to sit back and benefit from the labours and investment of others, incredibly these are the guys that will normally snipe at those who are trying to make a difference. I am afraid it goes with the territory!

Many thanks for your support!

It's much closer to 29/11d! The fees are designed to be all inclusive, indeed it costs less than £200 annually for a retailer to become a member!

All the best

David

Thanks David.

That's a great follow-up and I hope all forum readers take note and keep an eye on the situation. Obviously, not being a member does not disbar any seller from providing great deals and fantastic back-up and support. It is difficult though to understand (at least, for me) why any serious ebike business would wish to remain outside BEBA if they are dedicated to good business practice, given the low-cost membership.

I do appreciate the work that you, Mark and the fully-pledged BEBA members continue to do on behalf of all of us who enjoy electrically-assisted bikes. We could really do with those dithering out there to get on board if, for no other reason than, unity is strength.
