A 12 month old ex demo with 12 months warranty on eBay. For a Panasonic crank motor bike this is potentially superb value!

Here's Mike's link in active form:

E-motion on ebay

I agree, great value and a rare genuine bargain at the nominated price from the main agent for this brand.

I have already mentioned these 2 bikes on "stylish hill climber" thread last week. I would be cautious as seller is not very forthcoming... Just says they have a factory warranty all in box, thats not a lot of good when the factory is in Spain!

the better one IMO is the dérailleur 12 Ah one (latest Panasonic battery) The other is 8Ah 3 speed nexus hub geared.. the 12AH was on a "buy it now for £1100 and allowed offers..there were none, so it is now on an auction with a reserve.

Was thinking of one for my wife and really dont know what to do. As I was going to wait for these new crank drive bikes that are supposed to be coming out.

incidental these 2 bikes are old stock as they are not on current BH Emotion web site.....

EDIT:

Well just saw the link and it is a differnt bike direct from distrbuter so a safe purchase!

The 2 bikes I was discussing above are folders? and not from Onbike or 50 cycles

thanks Mike...

the other bike went for £880 so this 12Ah one will probably go into the 900's

My only concern is the warranty? probably unenforceable as it is a manufacturers one, so in Spain.... Cant imagine Onbike being to delighted to help as it is is not a UK supplied bike.....

just spoke to Onbike and warranty work would not be valid with them...

But probably more importantly the gearing/cadence? is awful and difficult to reach 15 mph:(

My logic on bidding on the bike:

a) I'm assuming that when it comes to a folding bike for your wife, you want to purchase a crank motor bike and that if you had to pay £1600 for the BH from one of the UK suppliers, that would not put you off the bike.
b) What is the wording on the BH Emotion European warranty?
c) BH seem to specialise in the more expensive end of the "push" bike market, assuming there is a link between the push and power operations, would they risk their reputation on inferior power products?
d) It appears to me the Panasonic unit is for the UK the most "common" unit available and probably also one of the most reliable.
e) The only expensive items on the bike that could fail (other than frame/folding mechanism) are either the motor / controller / battery. Everything else can be sourced at reasonable cost from the internet.
f) What is the availability of spares /rebuild / used / refurbished for Panasonic mechanics - we know the cost of batteries.
g) Based on forum experience what is the likelihood of failure - what are the potential costs that you might be left with if the warranty is not honoured - consider also any consumer rights, is this a trade seller?.
h) If the potential risk of repair costs exceed the differential between what the auction price is, and what you want to spend on a folding bike for your wife, can I recommend you search eBay for the proverbial "barge pole".

Good luck with your decision making

Mike

The 6 speed Tourney will be limiting in that regard. I'm not sure on rear OLD for the Tourney, I think it's 133mm, which at least a decent range of alternative derailleur or hub gear hubs could be used.
You'd have been better off with 3 speed hub regarding gearing as it would be easy to gear up with a smaller sprocket. Unless they've changed the electronics on it (which seems doubtful) I don't think it would assist to 15mph with tourney gearing as you'd need cadence of 90RPM to reach 15mph with 41 front chainring and 14 rear sprocket. Mind you if they have changes controller to account for that it would be worth buying and fitting the motor in a pro-connect :)

thanks chaps! that is the kind of input I was looking for...

that Onbike back up what you say, and that bike impossible to get to 15mph with legs spinning frantically!

I think I will let this one go!

This is incorrect. The cadence at 15 mph with 41/14 teeth and a 700c wheel and tyre is about 61.6 rpm, varying very slightly with tyre depth. A cadence of 90 rpm on it would be 21.9 mph

There's nothing wrong with this bike's gearing and the motor unit will undoubtedly be Panasonic's standard setup.

Thanks Eddie, apologies to andy2, it wasn't clear that the thread subject had changed when I popped back in after being out for the afternoon.

In that case the cadence would be 86 rpm at 15 mph, fairly typical for cheap folders, but well beyond assist speed. If a standard Panasonic unit the assist will cut off at about 12 mph. However, they may have the 11 tooth motor sprocket on it which would mean assistance to over 14 mph, and one could always add that anyway if happy with high cadences.
