I'm not trying to upset the speed police here, but seeing as the Bighit uses a normal rear wheel/cogset, would the following be true?
If the highest gear on the cogset was exchanged for a smaller one, would that theoretically  raise the top speed of the bike on the road?

The motor would assist to a higher speed so yes...

But as well as that, the legal speed is controlled by a magnet sensor on the back wheel. Disconnect or remove that and it assists to 18 mph, a much cheaper way of achieving a higher assist speed.

Do both mods and you'd be giving moped riders a fright.

I haven't seen it Brian, but that probably is it. See if it attracts a small light steel item (not stainless steel though). The Magnet will have an associated sensor with wires leading to it which it passes each time the wheel turns.

Not to be a killjoy. Because I feel the need for speed as well. That is why I have a Bacchetta Giro 26 to go down hills :)

Going faster and faster is all well and good but you also have to be careful of wheels and spokes. They were designed to do a certain job and the more hammering you give them they more likely they are to fail. I do not think a couple of miles an hour will do any harm. But once you get the idea of fitting a 50cc motor to it, like some guys on Youtube, then you will start to have problems.

You also have the added problem that if you start removing bits of the bike, you will invalidate your warranty if something goes wrong.

Don't be silly, 50cc is far too weedy to bother fitting on a bike :D
