The first real symptom was plantar fasciitis. And poor sleep.

This occurred after giving up smoking and having a lot of high stress things happen.

My TSH was tested, several times, and each time it had risen. FT4 below bottom of reference interval.

Started levothyroxine and things pretty much got back to my normal.
Yes, stress (in my limited experience) is somehow always part of adult onset (with hyper and hypo), as for me as well, which guess is unsurprising given thyroid works in tandem with adrenal glands.

Yep, Daily Mail, but Sarah Vine is spot on here. Old jug ears jumping in again. Another one who a masses an absolute fortune using the capitalist system to his own benefit (which is fine) and then promotes socialism. Oh the irony. Would be like a trained athlete making money selling us junk food.

I forgot to mention. Consultant said if I get fed up with wearing reading glasses I can wear a contact lens in none dominant eye to create mono vision.???
Seems like a good idea, though for most the contact lens routines would be just as much hassle as using reading glasses.

My case was different from the outset since my eyes had always been markedly lopsided. So much so that I called my left eye telescope and my right eye microscope, so I had extreme monovision from birth. I liked that since it suited my natural history interests perfectly, not needing to use a loupe when my right eye could do the job unaided. Useless in the army when firing a Lee Enfield 303 and unable to hit a large house at 50 yards using the right eye!

What I've got against reading glasses is that I don't have enough hands. Out in the countryside taking photos for the organisation I'm a member of, I need one or two hands for the camera. Sometimes I need a hand to hold aside foliage etc to snap the subject. Sometimes to support myself when in awkward or precarious situations. Many of my smaller subjects I photograph on a hand when more convenient, see this link. I'm the only one of the older 70s and 80s in the organisation not walking with a stick on rough ground to help with stability, since that too would require yet another hand to hold it.

Whoever or whatever designed us did a lousy job since we need at least four arms and preferably six. Many of my insects six legs are far superior, having in addition to a pretarsus (toes section), tarsus (foot), a tibia and femur just like us, they also have between the femur and body two more short sections, a trochanter and a coxa. That means they can lift a leg and reach any part of their body to scratch, rub or clean it. Even a simple creature like an earwig can use a couple of legs to reach over its back, fold up its occasionally used wings in the way the stars and stripes are ceremonially folded and tuck them safely away under their tiny elytra (wing cases), all while unable to see what they are doing. While we can't even reach all parts to simply scratch an itch!

I do like your comparison 'Would be like a trained athlete making money selling us junk food'. Still...

Pot and kettle. Vine is no better than those she attacked.

I think it should be expanded as soon as possible by the UN to all countries signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the problem of migration will be solved once for all.

Good points flecc.
I was sat watching tele last night, with reading glasses perched on my head ready to read phone /paper or whatever. Went to make a cuppa, came back. Phone pinged with incoming txt... Picked phone up with one hand, went for glasses with other. Nowhere to be seen. Still haven't found them.. But have 4 pairs or so dotted around house..
My weaker eye is also my dominant eye, even now or when wearing glasses:contacts my left eye is always around 2 lines better on Snellen. So, I, d always want to keep left eye for distance... Which in my case almost rules out mono... But I can see how it suits you.

Good point. Vine is part of problem just as much as Lineker, neither part of the solution. But fools can make good points.
Totally agreed.
I think (hope) that the principle is around reducing illegal immigration. Not immigration. Our country, as we have all pointed out and understand well, is built root and branch on immigration.
If I remember correctly Isambard Kingdom Brunel was voted greatest member of our society in its entire history. A French immigrant. (accepted 2nd generation)
Royal Family is German/Greek. Its endemic, its in our blood. Literally.

This reminded me of my brother's worst case NHS cataract procedure, he needed glasses for distance and another pair for reading. When his TV needed channels retuning due to a transmitter change he ended up stumped. He'd call up the menu from the remote using the close specs but then couldn't see the menu on the screen. In swapping to the distant specs to select from the menu it had dropped off screen due to the design time limit. Time after time he tried under my phone instruction, but in the end I had to drive 140 miles to Dorset to retune the damn thing for him!

Yep, I can relate to that. My close vision is now appalling but distance incredible. My eyes have never been as good. Seeing things never witnessed before, I know it sounds dramatic but it really is astonishing. I, m going out to look at things.. I, d better be careful... Get locked up for stuff like that.

Just how much of the value do we expect will come to the UK?

And how much would have come on a non-brexit basis?

Somehow it also is much more seemly to sell arms to close allies than various questionable regimes around the globe.

I know what you mean. Since my ops my eyesight has been far better than when I was a teenager. Initially it is startling, but it's been a few years now for me so I now take it for granted.

I'm a bit surprised there has not been much mentioned in the media that the booster jabs starting next week for 30 million people will mainly be provided by Pfizer. Where Pfizer is not available then a half dose of Moderna could be used, AZ only to be used if people are allergic to the other two vaccines.

If we in the UK don't want to use the AZ vaccine then I can't see too many other first world countries wanting it either I imagine most of it will now be shipped off to less fortunate countries.

Seem some odd decisions have been made. (Though I can understand there will be availability and distribution difficulties imposing restrictions on choices.) I'd have expected the optimum in terms of protection alone would be for a different vaccine to be used for any booster to that originally used.

If so, perhaps Israel would like some AZ for boosters?

Here's a little conundrum for anybody interested.
Between cataract ops I removed lense from right side of glasses. It didn't work, yep both images in focus but the IOL eye saw image about 10% bigger. I thought that impossible so mentioned to consultant. Oh, yes she said dependant on the strength of lenses you need there will be an apparent difference in size of images.
So, being an inquisitive type I thought I, d try and work out the difference.
Obviously the ruler at arms length held up to measure the sizes of images didn't work. The units on the ruler will be subject to the same distortion.. Images would give the same size.. And obviously did... But what about field of vision angle measurement.
If an object appears larger it must occupy a larger proportion of your field of vision.
Sat in garden about 10 ft from goal posts and true enough they did occupy more in right than left.
Found my old inclinometer I used to demonstrate a use of trigonetry at school. (a large black board protractor with a site stick which rotated about central point of protractor)
Sat base of device horizontal on a box 30cm from ground at 15ft away from goals and measured angle with my right eye. It was 32 degrees.
So the goals occupied 32 degrees of my field of vision? (vertically) Its a simple calc to turn that into a height.. Tommy On A Shop Of His Caught A Herring and all that...
But now the question... With my left eye will the angle of inclination be different? The object occupies a smaller %age of my field of vision so it should decrease... But the distance away and height are constant so angle should not change..
Answers on a post card...
I measured it with left...???
What do folk think?

Z... . Your eyes are different, and optically very poor devices. Your brain does the compensation. Remember.. even that the images in the retina are inverted . Don't underestimate the power of even your brain.

I couldn't wear one eye glass with IOL in other tho. Brain couldn't compensate for different sizes..
And, it doesn't explain the conundrum...
Would the angle for field of vision be differ rent?

Yes, but it doesn't matter for the reason Danidl has given. Remember my posting that few peoples eyes are equal? The optical centre at the rear of the brain automatically compensates for such differences, intelligently interpreting what is happening and correcting for the differences.

Another example, long ago a floater appeared in right eye. Irritating at first, the brain soon omitted it from my normal vision. Some while later a floater appeared in my left eye, but the same pattern followed. Although they are very definitely there all the time and an optician can spot them immediately, I normally never register them, even though my retina is seeing them as clearly as the optician's one. In fact i can call them up to order with a trick.

The downside to this sort of complex brain compensation is that it takes time, accounting for why we can seem a bit dumb compared with the abilities of some other creatures. Everything we see in our brains is delayed behind when our retina detected them. For example many insects have, in addition to their amazing compound eyes, additional eyes called ocelli, most commonly on top of their heads. These only detect changes in movement and light, but because these signals sent to their brains are so simple, their brains can react to them with astonishing speed. It's a major reason why swatting them can be so difficult, as our movement starts they are already reacting with avoidance.

Yes it can and does, for your unaided eyes. Add any artifical means and it becomes a different story of course.
