Hi all,

I have been reading these forums for a few weeks to try and get a feel for some bikes and i am hoping to attempt my first test rides at the weekend. initially i hoped to keep the budget down to under 1000 but i have found some extra as most of the ones that interest me seem to hit the 1500+ or nearly so.

I am planning to try the e-motion (cross deluxe) and wisper (905 se sport) mainly with a couple of other models maybe.

Does any have any thoughts on the e-motion bikes as i cannot see much information on them? i will probably try and sneak in a test ride on a kalhoff somewere after tempting myself to one ithe classifieds without riding it!

Any help appreciated on my decision!

:)

Seems like a good plan and 3 decent manufacturers...make sure your tests take in some hills not just around a flat car park;)

The e-motion bikes are like European production in general, very high quality. The way in which they and all the Panasonic unit bikes work is very different from hub motor bikes like the Wisper, so it's important to try both types before buying since personal preference is really the largest factor inhow you get on with them.

Fundamentally, the Panasonc unit adds power to your pedal strokes so is bionic, making it seem that your leg muscles are much stronger, but the system insists that you provide a proportion of the input, typically 40 to 50%.

The hub motors are more like very low powered motorbikes, giving continuous drive which only demands higher input from you when hill or headwind demands you assist more.

Badpoet: where are you located?

I ask because the Wisper main dealer (PowaRider) in Woking, Surrey, are very accommodating people and will let you ride their bikes, including up and down local hills, to give you an idea of what they do.

Like you, I started off with a fairly small budget in mind, but reality hit home and I ended up ordering a Wisper City for about twice what I had expected to pay. (I haven't got the bike yet; on order, so I'll be reporting back in a few weeks).

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Unfortunately I am located near Manchester so not so many of the Stockists are near me, I am thinking I might try and get to valley scooters and check out a gepida as well.

I love the look of e emotion bikes, low weight and should make a good ride unpowered. I used to ride a lot 15 years ago and hoping to get back into it cycling to work but the near 10 miles each watt scares me slightly unassisted right now!

The new emotion ones look nice, worth waiting for perhaps? I am hoping to get to on bike on Saturday this week.

if you are near Manchester, you could also try CycleMate - not sure what stock they have, but they are Raleigh dealers. But their (very limited) website says that they have been snowed under with orders for electric bikes. Great news for me, 'cos they are my LBS. Cycle Mate :D

And depending which side of Manchester you're on, there's JuicyBikes in Buxton - great-looking bikes, sub-£1K, and a delightful proprietor who'll do all he can to help. (No shares, just experience lately!)

I see that the cat has just managed to get out of bag so yes it's time to show the new range right now. I will however do it in the new thread.

I did consider the juicy bike but wasn't sure of thetyle, otherwise seems. Good buy.

The oxygen ones look interesting but as ever with these bikes they seem miles from me being near Manchester.

Well I went for a look at onbike and bought an emotion cross deluxe - I liked the fact it looks more like a normal bike. 105 miles in the first week, so far so good!

Yes some superb ones, such as the Emotion chosen by Badpoet, it's a great bike and they have not had to copy anyone!

Such a shock to see those that pay homage to Wisper have a white look alike bike too now, come on guys do a bit of blue sky thinking for your selves.

Fortunately we have patents and design registrations on the new DaaHub kit so the plagiarists will need to do a bit of design work for themselves they will find out how expensive being original is.

All the best
