I own a Ford Ka and i can take it to any garage in my town and get it fixed,i also own a Piaggio 50cc scooter, again i can take it to my local motorcycle/scooter dealer and get it serviced etc,the push bike i can fix myself, but if needed there are 5 cycle shops in town, but e. bikes the story is different, there is nowhere in my town of Shrewsbury where i can go for advice, spares or servicing.Halfords is about as close as it gets to sales and service of e.bikes,so,until this situation improves i realy cant see a future for e.bikes outside the larger cities. My humble first e.bike is powered by SLA batteries which i have just renewed for £65 which is ok,but the newer generation of batteries run into 100s of £s,these sort of prices will keep my car and scooter ticking over for a while on the sort of milages i do.All this is a great shame, because i enjoyed cycling when i was younger but now i am older i enjoy e.biking even more, get battery prices down and more dealers and i think there will be an explosion in e.bike ownership.

Although ebike batteries are expensive, one year of ownership and use of a car would make a battery seem cheap!

There should be nothing you need from a dealer in the way of servicing if you already know how to fix a normal bike. In the rare event that something does go wrong with the electrics, you'll probably get more help from this forum that a deal - plus, it won't cost so much. Most batteries can be purchased on-line cheaper than a local dealer, You only have to slot them in. What more do you want.

BTW I work in Shrewsbury, so if you get stuck with anything, you can send me a PM and I'll come and have a look.

I've been e-biking since 2 months now.

Since then, I haven't spent any more money on public transport. Saved already £200 in 2 months only :)

You need to be logged in. Then click on my name in any posting in this forum and the select "Private Message" (PM) to send me a message that doesn't get shown to everybody else.

I just sent you one so that you can see how it works. When logged on, if you look at the top right, theres a little grey "notifications" box that'll tell you that you've got a1 new private message.
