I was just thinking about the battery as there are more options at 36v. As the motor is 48v then I will look at 48v battery options. Lipo or otherwise.
From my little bit of research, any useful Range Lipo battery for 48v setup would be a big unit, which defeats my main reason for using Lipo.

Not sure if the 48v controllers will take 15s 55v as you could series 3x5s and get away with using a standard 6s charger.
Zippy make 7s lipo's but are expensive and you would need 4 to make a 14s 52v - 10ah or 11.6ah (£240) battery and an 8S charger for them which also isn't cheap (£120)

With lipo it is easier to simplify set ups, 6s combo's for 48v.

15s is bang on for the 63v capacitor limit for the dual voltage controller so 4.1v max charge per cell should work, though doesn't give much spare.

So guys, what would be the best combo of 5S or 6S Lipos which is physically the smallest for my 48v requirement.
Would two 22.2v Lipos be enough?

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-graphene-professional-12000mah-6s-15c-lipo-pack-w-xt90.html

I am not looking for super powerful, fast bike, just something with good range, 20mph, on PAS only. Maybe I should have gone for a 36v motor..
Two of those in series is a 10.4 Ah 460 Wh 44.4v battery. If you pedal a bit and are economical on assistance levels you could get 70 km from a 36v motor with those Wh (I have done). I don't know how much more Wh a 48v motor uses but would suggest 55-60 km range (34-37 m) if you do a bit of work. They are quite big and much more expensive than a bespoke 18650 battery made to fit in your bag if they are not at sale price.

I paid $110 for a 10 Ah 6S pack on sale, it is part of my $170 36v Graphene battery. Add the charger etc you would be much better off forgetting stealthy and buying this for $262:
EU No Tax free shipping 48V 13h Hairon the interior battery LG LGEBM261865 18650 ebike battery pack fit 48V 750W/ 1000W

When I got into LiPo the above 18650 battery was not available much less free shipping and VAT included, I know what I would have chosen had it been available...

If looking to put in a rack bag or pannier then look at soft pack options.
There's also Jimmy at bga-reworking could spotweld a battery together in a saddle bag.

Last we heard was Insat/BGA weren't taking on new battery work though that was before Xmas due to illness, Jimmy doesn't trust anyone else so and with the red tape won't train any one else up.
I believe that Jimmy was under going cancer treatment.

That Hairon 18650 battery was the one I was looking at in post 78.
How would that compare range and power wise against the Lipos listed above.? Think the easier option of the 18650 battery looks a good one with a lot less trouble..

The MG1 cell is a 2850mah cell although 10a rated is more like 8a so fairly comparable the Pana PF & Sam 29E.
The battery is 14.25 ah and comes with the charger, so 13s 5p for 54.6v max charge. the 14.25ah is the theorectical capacity if taken to 2.7v per cell but like the lipo you won't use the full capacity.

Comparing to lipo and packs you would req;
5.2a x 6 packs for 15.6a or approx. 12.5ah usable.
8ah x 4 packs for 16ah or approx 12.8 usable.
10ah x 4 packs for 20ah or approx 16ah usable.

The 18650 is a safer option with bms balancing incorporated, simple to mount and remove.
Lipo's more of a faff ideally only charge to 4.1 - 4.15 better if discharge is stopped at 3.7 v & not less then 3.5v per cell. Not easy to frame mount needs a bespoke casing made or use a frame bag not easy to remove and take with you, req's extra monitoring alarms & wire connections.

Yes two different batteries, the cells inside are different.

Both are available from EU warehouse.
13ah uses 5a LG M26 2600mah cells.
14.5ah (14.25 ) uses 10a LG MG1 2850 mah cells.

Usually yes.
Mg1has 10% more ah so should in theory should give 10% more range. The cell amp rating is some 60%+ better so longevity should be better and more able to deliver power with less. voltage sag.

This is the case for a few more weeks

I hadn't seen this post and asked for a price on a build this morning

Well the Q128C motor has arrived from BMS and the 17A controller is in transit somewhere at the inward office of exchange !
17-01-2018 23:19 UNITED KINGDOM Arrived at processing centre (inward office of exchange)
I have done a little homework on the basic settings for the LCD3, ( wheel size mph limit etc) but do I need to set the other 2 groups of settings, P and C, or leave them as they are? If so where would I find the settings needed?
