Could any one tell me the correct size for a bottom bracket....halfords do not stock them which is hard to understand as the bike is one of their products.

halfords web page for this bike? details this bottom bracket spec?

Sq taper, 68mmx126mm,

If not its perhaps worth exploiting distance selling and next day delivery and buying one matching the above spec and measuring which if any dimensions are incorrect and return/re-order accordingly?

an ebay 'carbon fibre' set of digital callipers can be picked up for less than a fiver (probably?) ali express otherwise..

It still makes me wonder why folks deal with Halfrauds for bikes especially the Suntour system bikes.

I think halfords are useless as they cannot supply most of the parts...not even a bottom bracket for one of their products.

You can't blame Halfords. Nearly all ebikes suffer from this problem. The technology is changing all the time as manufacturer's find ways to make them better. The only way to guarantee that you'll get spare parts when you need them is to buy a bike from a brand that promises you that service (e.g. Wisper) or to buy a bike that has standard modular parts, which can be replaced with other standard modular parts.

Thousands of weird and wonderful ebikes have been and gone. They're OK as long as they work, but sooner or later they will metamorphose into a garden trellis.

You should always avoid bikes with bespoke parts. Exceptions are long-standing brands like Bosch, where their popularity means that there will be a lot of spares around. I can't name every brand and model. Just use common sense, and do a bit of research if you have any doubt.

I found suntour also unable to supply most parts...they could not even send me a schematic of the motor pcb......but i was fortunate enough to be able to repair the motor myself without the the schematic....i still feel these companies should support their products for longer than they do.

Hello Baz....I was able to get hold of another frame from marketplace....its another vulcan frame but 18" but its completely stripped of any parts....the bottom bracket i need is i believe a 73mm x 137mm tappered type...and i also want a suntour left hand crank...i have no photo of the bottom bracket so i can only go by the above model number....this is a 2nd frame as the first one was damaged by the courier who dropped the frame onto the seat top tube which badly bent the aluminium over...i tried to straiten it out and landed up causing about a 6mm rip in the tube also the previous owner had drilled 3 holes in the cross bar which some people say can cause a weakness in the aluminium and said scrap it...but i may fill the small holes with resin.....whats your thoughts on this ???? regards David

Yes the amount of people I try to steer away from Suntours and put on kits is a lot .

But you can not fault Halfruds for there marketing and Sales campaigns.

I had a customer send me a Suntour Carrera battery this week 2 year old bike used 10miles the on and off button on the BMS is faulty so now the battery is scrap because no one can get a replacement BMS and none of the specialist PCB repair companies I have contacted are not interested in trying to do repair’s.

Lucky I just bought in a 2025 bike from Tredz had a broken LCD so I was able to sell him a new battery at half price of Halfords but no warranty .

The Suntours is from early Carrera bikes the other one is from later bikes I think they both fit .

I am having to put lots of cheap parts on e bay at the moment as they have sanctioned her business account because customers kept buying used used Carrera batteries after I asked them not to .
So when they did even at a cost I thought they would not sell for I refunded them because it’s against e bay rules now to sell used e bike batteries so they then counted these as me not being able to sell items or
“Out of Stock “ Catch 22 Possible sanction for selling prohibited items and sanctioned for not selling a prohibited item .

Let you have the e bay numbers once I list them £8.00 each but they are very low miles even the older one .

Hello Baz....I had a look at your ebay listing bottom bracket but i think the width is too small as the one i need is 137mm...halfords cannot even supply this part !!! your faulty battery pack cannot you try and repair the BMS or just swop from another faulty battery pack ??? are these BMS pcb's not availiable as a spare part ??? i think suntour have really done a very bad job on their after sales service !!!

I would think it’s will not
Not can not .

The very high failure rate of Carrera Battery BSM’s at 500 and 550 a pop you would think they would support some small independent battery companies being able to offer repair out side of the Warranty.

I have spoken to many angry customers who can not get there Raleigh and Suntour batteries repaired .

Hello Baz....if it were me i would either try to repair the BMS pcb at component level....or use an alternate 36v BMS....i have made up many battery packs for electric drills and other equipment using off the shelf BMS boards....with the damaged vulcan frame i was lucky that it had the battery attached and the speed controller...and torque sensor...i think he had lost the key so he could not remove it....i picked up a nice hydrulic clarks brake set the other day complete from a garage sale for £5 so i was very happy....the bottom bracket i will have to keep looking as i dont want to buy a new one.

I have been talking to an engineer at topbike kit about this he also agrees to abandon the Suntours BMS and suggest Hailong ones because of realistic budget for the the Carrera batteries, but then we have to change Controller, LCD, PAS because of the Comms system .

For DIY this works but for a Carrera kit to sell just keep the motor it makes more sense and is more cost effective to just buy a good China battery and make it fit on the Carrera.

You are welcome to try and fix the battery I have with the on off problem , I have 3 other defective BMS boards with different faults to get components off. ?
I been contacting companies in China to try get them copied no luck as yet I will start looking in Vietnam soon they have a whole electronic district in Saigon .

Not having the schematic’s is a problem .
