The problem is i cant find a suntour HESC bottom bracket 73 x 136 secondhand....a new one ive found is around £40...also there is a metal ring that fits onto the side of the bottom bracket which prevents the crank torque sensor cable from being ripped out...which i cannot find on the internet....as stated i know the suntour system is crap...but hopefully i can keep the bike working over time,also im not using the bike every day but only times when i want to travel longer distance...ive learnt how to repair the electronics in the motor so i should be able to keeps things going on that front....i think the main problems will be the controller and maybe LCD and the BMS in the battery case...in the future....

Your decision is not based on logic. You're going to have a problem with the battery in the near future, especially if you don't use it much. The Suntour torque sensor you want to use will also pack up pretty soon. Any sensible person would change that stuff now or start afresh with a different bike. You're going in deeper and deeper with nothing to show for it.
An old Oxygen, Wisper or Freego with the battery behind the seat tube can be had with a knackered battery for about £200. You can get a 48v battery for around £250, a KT controller kit for about £80 and a pair of good used hydraulic brakes or new Chinese ones for about £40, then you have a really nice, comfortable and powerful bike with a legal throttle if you want one, and as much range as you want. That would be a much better project, and no problem getting parts for it.
The bikes you mentioned are all small wheel bikes....i like at lest 27.5" wheels...my Trek mountain bike has 29" wheels but with an 17.5" frame...which is ok for me even though im a short person.......i have been able to buy two secondhand batteries which i bought very cheap...which will help keep the bike going. I use to do electronic repair work in the past but now retired,so i can tackle some of the things which may go wrong with the bike in the future....most things can be repaired as long that its only discrete components...if processors then it becomes junk !!! I was not sure that it was legal to use a throttle on an ebike...i think a throttle is far better than pe dal assist !!!!

I think best just scrap the repair of the Carrera STL Battery BMS unless you can identify the component that is stopping it from charging the battery it’s seems to be the main fault even if you can I doubt the component is available especially if as you think it’s coded .
I do not think they are even worth while putting in a different BMS because of the age even Halfords are only offering refurbished at £450.00 power tools or other use seems like the best way forward I thinking of a 36 V battery packs rather than for my shed charged with a solar panel .
I have a new Enphase inverter here the one that fits to a solar panel and sends 240V direct from the panel.
The later batteries are a different Kettle of fish I have 3 or 4 of the BMS boards here with different faults , if you want to have a go at these as a hobby and see if you can do any thing with them I will drop them down to you.
Ie swap some components to try get them working again .
I do however want to look at fitting the Hailong USB BMS onto the later Carrera battery packs rather than scrapping the Samsung cell battery packs , I want to put an after market kit together for these ie change the PAS , LCD and controller and sell them as reconditioned.
Along with the option a bespoke battery mount and a new Hailong battery going to start doing this this week .
With the motor refurbishing this may be some thing for you
Give me a list of all the bits you want for your Vulcan Build and I will see what I can dig out for you I have a few boxes of odds and sods I have not got round to putting on e bay yet.

Hello Baz....As you know the frame came yesterday and the condition is excellent and the sender packed it in a large box which really protected it !!! im still trying to find the correct bottom bracket which will hold me up some what....i need an original left hand crank...also some clarkes M2 brake levers as the brakes from the first frame the seller cut them short.. .also maybe a good condition original delore deraillier...original black/orange carrera hand grips. im willing to have a look at those BMS boards....as i said the ic's if they are micro processors will not be able to be replaced as they are pre programmed and i cant believe suntour will supply any chips !! are the motors suntour or other make ????
The long silver tapered Raleigh Array BB uses the exact same or as near as like Chain wheel that the Suntours Crank Sensor bolts too.
You just need to add the stop clip ie the metal ring that he torque sensor locating nibs lock into to stop it turning with the Crank.
Motors all Suntours possibly One Bafang that I did a poor repair too .
I broke a few Vulcans have a look this week. With out physically checking will a crank not fit either was round or am I being a dummy
I have an old original battery here too you will probably be able to repair the BMS the guy blew the fuse on it and the cells will not hold a charge so it’s on the scrap pile .
Dave if you do not have an EBCT 19 OR EARLIER SUNTOURS CONTROLLERS you may have a job to get one as they are getting hard to find and will probably cost 60 quid or more unless you are lucky and find a cheap one
I have been able to get hold of two controllers for this vulcan e bike....the first frame came with a battery and the controller....a few months ago i bought some parts which was another battery & controller with a damaged battery lock...including right hand crank with torque sensor.....the ca ble on this torque sensor had been ripped out so at some time i will repair it...if any of the contr ollers have a problem i will try and repair them if i can remove the epoxy resin...and hope there are no micro controllers inside
I can only hope if i ever have to repair one its not down to a micro controller fault
