centre stand

My X-Byke has a reasonably good centre stand with one serious flaw.
The main stand is fairly substantial, it is bolted on through the V from the pedals to the back wheel but the top bracket that the bolt head bears onto is mild steel (3mm thick, shaped at 90° along the edges to add rigidity), and it bends over time loosening the stand causing the bike to fall over. I've supplemented it with an extra bar (mild steel, 2mm thick) but in time they bow causing the bracket to loosen and the bike to be unsteady and to fall over (unless I manage to notice it loosening first)- that's how my gear changer got broken. After a while it is so bent that I have to take it off and straighten it with a big hammer at which point I've tried leaving it as it will be work hardened and heat/quench so that the metal crystals are smaller (but more likely to bend). Nothing has worked. I tried ordering a bracket from a well known UK cycle shop which (I was told) was much thicker than the original. Fair enough, it was- but it was plastic. Thanks guys! (never bought from them since).
So, does anyone know of a good solid replacement centrestand they can recommend with legs that are reasonably well splayed out (90% are very close together- too close for reliable use of a heavily laden bike)? The best I've seen is what I've got but there must be better.

Thanks

Is that a picture of the one you have or the one you want?

That picture was similar to the one on the bike. Since then I've found the actual one- the bendy bracket is the same too (but not pictured too clearly)- it's a Hebie Xtreme two legged stand Rastmaxx Quick Adjust.

Thanks Frank.

I've measured the one on the bike and at 190mm that has to be better. Certainly it's a pretty good price compared to the Hebie ones. I think angpatten owes you some commission! I've bought things from them in the past and always found them to be good to deal with.

The main reason they are not wider is that the offside leg can foul the chain on derailleur gear bikes where the chain rises and falls with gear change rear sprocket size.

Frank,
I've just read the latest ad from anjpatten on ebay- it says the stand is 200mm wide- it's not worth getting for an extra 10mm. Are the stands you get in 250mm?

The main reason they are not wider is that the offside leg can foul the chain on derailleur gear bikes where the chain rises and falls with gear change rear sprocket size.
The stand already runs outside of the chain and it doesn't extend too much past the chainwheel. A wider stand will give more clearance from the chain, not less.

They look neat Frank. I may get one of those for my daughters leccy bike as it falls over on the side stand if she has too much weight in her panniers.

Just a quick note to say the problem seems solved by a combination of 2 things:
- I fitted the spring based steering damper from Hebie.
- I also fitted an aluminium top plate for a Hebie stand. The bolt doesn't fit (too big) and is countersunk but I managed to fit using the original bolt. (I'll reprofile the hole to a flat base or source a countersunk bolt). The stand hasn't slackened since fitting this.
