This is a heads up for some good value Dahon Folders which could be good for conversion. You can see them here ea7tsm | eBay ;)

Hmm....The 24 inch wheel IOS XL looks nice......still pricy though and at 15kg a bit heavy with a kit. would be more comfortable then most I bet

I just snapped up the new Dahon Jetstream P8 on ebay. Got it for £475.

So many bikes sigh... one is going to have to go.

Thanks.

What I like about some of the newer Dahons is they now also have a luggage block fitting welded onto the front. My Brompton has one and with smaller wheels carrying lugggage up front is easy.

I think I am going to go for a light assist with one of my Tongxins. I will need to spread the front forks from 75 to 83mm, hope the Tongxin clears the fork sides. Also I think the front forks are aluminium. Hopefully I won't need a torque arm given the motor only puts out 180 watts ?

I guess I should start a new thread.

It will be interesting to compare with my Brompton. Probably more comfy to ride but not as small folded package. Its always a trade off. For regular e-assist I am soley reliant on my Brompton for work pretty much, so it will be good to have this for backup.

Great deal, I think my friend was going to buy one of these from Evans late last year for £700.

Yep some of the Dahon deals are very good at the moment. I wonder why they are all reduced so much. I can't see why the Tern/Dahon split would make that happen.

Oh well good for us consumers :D

That is undoubtedly the driver Jerry. The split is very acrimonious and Dr David Hon is clearly trying to wreck any chance of his wife and son's Tern venture by major discounting of his Dahon brand using Dahon resources. That coupled with his legal action against Florence and Joshua on infringements of design rights could cripple the new venture.

Sorry Jerry, my mail box was full again due to me sending myself too many mails to make me feel more popular. It's clear now.
Fork spacing is approx 75mm.

Many thanks Dave,

That explains it, comes with being popular I guess.

The PM did not appear in my outbox though strange.

Hopefully they will take a 6-7mm stretch for the 83mm Tongxin. Is the profile of them flat in the inside re fowling the motor ?

Sorry but can I also ask you one more question ?

Could you measure the height from the ground to the top of the handle bar grip ?

I like an upright ride. Not sure if there is any adjustment of the handle bars/stem up/down ?

Actually that was three questions

Bad news! Only 60mm between the forks just above the drop-outs. I don't know why I didn't notice that before. Sorry to get your hopes up. The height of the handlebars is approx 1000mm.

Looks like you need one of those Cute motors as well. They're not bad: I'd say smoother and quieter than a Bafang. I've never tried a Tongxin, so I can't give a direct comparison.

Many thanks again Dave.

60mm !!

Surely even a Cute motor would not go in there ?

Correct. I meant a rear motor - I should've said.

the handlebar height is not adjustable, but you could replace them with riser bars maybe. Might affect the folding though.

Lol anyone want to buy a new Dahon JetStream

The Tongxin case does shrink to 70mm almost immediately after the locking nuts. Might be possible though it sounds really tight. Any chance of a picture, or I will have to wait till Tues when it is delivered.

If not it could be my first rear hub motor build as you say :p

PS Not as heavy as I thought

I'll try and do a photo tomorrow morning, I would say that you've got no chance of getting a motor between the forks.
