Lol anyone want to buy a new Dahon JetStream

The Tongxin case does shrink to 70mm almost immediately after the locking nuts. Might be possible though it sounds really tight. Any chance of a picture, or I will have to wait till Tues when it is delivered.

If not it could be my first rear hub motor build as you say :p

PS Not as heavy as I thought

Nice purchase Jerry. I was wondering how long the Dahon jetstream would stay on ebay. So 1,5 days before it gets sold :)

The Dahon 2008 Jetstream XP used a 100mm fork with disc brake tabs - which is no real help of course:)

Why don't you try to put a bigger motor on it? I would see a nice BPM 500W on the rear wheel. This bike is made for strong acceleration anyway.

Time to taste some speed :)

I wonder if they would spread 10mm to accommodate the 70mm wide motor casing ?

The Brompton had a similar problem with my original Tongxin motors. Note the washer spacers

What's the actual width of the motor from the disc brake face to the opposite one?

Dave,

Here is the motor

Just remeasured. Between the lock nuts is 82mm, between the casing flats 70mm at the widest point as it shrinks/steps down, same on both faces.

.

PS that is not a disk brake face but a plate that unscrews. The screws go through and hold the clutch/freewheel. Or maybe you can fit a disk brake to it with longer screws, not sure ?

Ps I never realised the rear Cutes were so light 2.1kg ? which is the same as this motor so it won't really matter if I have to fit one in the rear forks instead.

Would be interesting to see how different a rear motor rides.

Dave get out your shed/workshop and read my reply above lol

Just spend all afternoon fettling in mine. Re-built a rear wheel and did some cleaning. Tomorrow will take the missus out to keep her sweet. Probably cycle into Cambridge, unassisted of course. It would be a bit bad if I took an ebike!

She still doesn't know about the Dahon

So Dave are those forks parallel 60mm all the way up or do they taper ?

70mm is not going to fit.

That boss on the screws side looks like it's to centre a disk. What else could it be for. You could place a disk over it to check whether the screws are in the right place.

I wasn't in my shed. I went out for my first pleasure ride this year from my house to Ironbridge and then along the River Severn to Bridgenorth - about 30 miles with no more than half a mile on the road. It's brilliant. The only disappointment was no Lycra boys to race. Very steep hills on the way back up Ironbridge Gorge, but no problem for the BPM - like pedalling on the flat.

Just an update to say I returned the Dahon in the end. Its a nice bike but I couldn't face messing about with a rear wheel install.

The seller is excellent. He has relisted it together with an update about the bike condition. Although brand new it will need a little setting up of the rear shock and the middle hinge is quite stiff though there are instructions in the manual about how to adjust it.

Quality control of hinges varries apparently. I am spoilt with my Moulton and Brompton :p
