hi, am looking to add an electric motor to my carrera sulcata 29er mtb.

I really wanted to try and get a faster one but not silly money - ideally more than 250w and thought the 8fun centre crank mounted motor should be good. But I'm new to this and you guys may have a better thought and advice on if a wheel motor is best and what sort. I would really like to go faster than 15mph too. Any advice on a crank or hub and what make of kit would be much appreciated.

Many thanks phil

Welcome Cornish Phil,
The forum needs a few details about you and your usage, such as your weight, any hills you wish to conquer, distance you are wanting to travel etc, etc. Then the legality if you go more then 250w are you likely to get stopped or draw attention to you self.

hi - I'm not too heavy - 12 stone - would be using it for general commuting some hills not too large and about 15 miles each way. Would try not to draw attention to myself and keep off main routes and on quite back roads or trails. Just liked the idea of going a little faster than 15mph. many thanks

then the BBS01 250W 15A 36V would be good, totally legal. I get about 23 mph with mine. With a 13 AH battery, you'll get about 40-50 miles, with 15AH battery, 50-60 miles.

This is about as cheap as you will find from the uk, however the hub may need to be built into your own rim. The battery is more than ample and will do 40 plus miles and a 20a controller will give good grunt for hills. Most will do 19- 22 once derestricted with a bit of good peddaling and the crank ones even a bit more but they will cost about 550-600 with a max bottom bracket width of 73mm but ideally 68mm is better.
But if speed is your main concern consider a 48v system rather than 36v.
P.S.
Cyclezee Bigbear kit not available now as it is on its way to my door.
