Just spent 20 mins on phone to my Home insurer Esure to try and cover 2 ebikes on home cover. After giving all details I was then told that they could not cover bikes because they only cover up to motor size of 200 watts. Anyone else had a similar experience? Looks like I'll have to go to a specialist insurer

That's because 200 watts is still the limit to power under the 1983 EAPC regulations, the DfT having failed to update it since the EU 250 watt introduction in 2003. This update is now in hand but we are informed that it will be about a year before it's passed into law.

Meanwhile 250 watt e-bikes are illegal according to EAPC and Construction & Use legislation, but legal under Type Approval legislation. Yes, you guessed, only Britain out of the 27 EU countries made this mess of implementing e-bike law.
