Hi all,

Due to an increasingly work load and very busy study schedule I'm not able to commit enough time to our CycleCharge project which many of you have kindly supported and donated to since the beginning of the year. As a result, the project has not progressed as much as it could be doing over the last 2 months.

Therefore I'm considering stepping down as Project Manager and would like to offer the role to anyone else who fancies having a go? I will still be closely involved in the project and will take care of the website, look after technical side of things and will be available to help and advise anyone who takes over the running of the project. However I think we need someone more publicly visible and active for the role really. Someone who is willing to get out there, meet people, make calls to charities, pester government departments for funding etc ;-)

So, if anyone has time on their hands and feels like it's something you'd like to do, put your name forward! Remember though, it's unpaid and voluntary work at this stage, but any expenses you incurr such as postage, materials, and phone calls, will be covered so it won't cost you anything. Anyone who has experience in the e-bike industry, or a business/charity background would be especially welcome, but don't let that put anyone else off putting themselves forward..enthusiasm and dedication counts too ;-)

As project manager you will be able to decide how you want to take the project forward, how fundraising is carried out, how it's used etc..but keeping true to our aims outlined on the website, which means remaining committed to a non-commercial, free to use service, consulting with our members on big decisions, and being fully financially accountable to our members of course!

Lynda (funkylyn) is our regional organiser but could take on the role of project manager if you want to Lynda? But I expect Lynda is as busy as I am with her business and other things? So I'm throwing it open to the forum for discussion.. if no-one comes forward, then I will continue in the role and the project may continue to progress slowly, but others would be welcome to lend a hand with the running, if nobody feels about to commit fully.

CycleCharge knocked back for Sustainable Transport grant

Incidentally, I don't think I mentioned..but I did approach my County Council last month for a grant for CycleCharge as my County Council (Worcestershire) was one of those awarded a big grant from the Department of Transport to promote and encourage sustainable transport in our County.

Naturally, one would think CycleCharge would be an ideal candidate for some financial help and local authority backing? The letter I got from Worcestershire County Council said unfortunately they could not support our project as "all the money (£1.8 million) had already been allocated".

I looked at their plans which do include provision for promoting Cycling, but nothing specifically for e-bikes, and basically only adding more cycle lanes to footpaths and cycling signs. Most of the funding will be used to subsidise more buses and cheaper bus fares, plus advertising and leafleting etc (they sent a glossy leaflet to every home!).. Great use of money (not!)

It's so frustrating when we're trying to make a real difference on the ground with CycleCharge with a real practical project that can benefit communities and the environment, but just get ignored by the local authority.

They did say they would raise our project on the national local authority forums so charities and other government departments could hear about it. They also suggested we contact a few charities directly, including one that promotes cycling.

Hello Morphix,

I'm working full time so I probably won't be able to help with phone calls or meeting, but I'm happy to help on the website if I can be of any use.

Thanks very much I appreciate it cwah and will keep you in mind when I get back onto the website and resume work on it. Between Lynda, Alan (kitchenman) and myself, we need all the help we can get! What I'm planning to do with the website is take a decentralised approach and assign a "regional manager" (for want of a better name) for each region. So that person would have admin privileges and be able to ensure the directory page for their region is kept up-to-date...and also have the ability to add new charge points easier, post announcements etc...like a little community hub type thing.
