Over the last couple of weeks I've been noticing that my battery has been cutting out more often than not on the final hill of my 15 mile round trip and the motor has seemed a little underpowered compared to before for both the outward and particularly towards the end of the return journey. The charge time had also been reduced to just under an hour. I thought the battery was nearing the end of it's life.
I tried the deep discharge method a couple of months ago but hadn't noticed much difference then. I tried it again over the weekend and the results were amazing. I think the difference this time was that I effectively took the whole weekend to go through the whole process. I rode the bike on low power until the motor cut out. Then the next day I propped the bike up and ran the motor on high power until it cut out (took quite a long time). Then the next day again I did the same on low power. It was then some hours before I did the complete overnight charge. I noticed this time the charger ran for 1 hour 35mins before the fan stopped. I've never seen it run this long before.
The bike performance was terrific too. It seemed to have much more power for the complete trip and even my final hill I raced up. I went up and down it four more times to try to drain the battery before giving up. The next day the battery took 1 hour 20 mins to charge (still much more than it has been of late). I don't know whether it will quickly deteriorate but for now it feels like a new battery!
Hope this is useful for others who feel their battery is drooping!
