Over the last couple of weeks I've been noticing that my battery has been cutting out more often than not on the final hill of my 15 mile round trip and the motor has seemed a little underpowered compared to before for both the outward and particularly towards the end of the return journey. The charge time had also been reduced to just under an hour. I thought the battery was nearing the end of it's life.

I tried the deep discharge method a couple of months ago but hadn't noticed much difference then. I tried it again over the weekend and the results were amazing. I think the difference this time was that I effectively took the whole weekend to go through the whole process. I rode the bike on low power until the motor cut out. Then the next day I propped the bike up and ran the motor on high power until it cut out (took quite a long time). Then the next day again I did the same on low power. It was then some hours before I did the complete overnight charge. I noticed this time the charger ran for 1 hour 35mins before the fan stopped. I've never seen it run this long before.

The bike performance was terrific too. It seemed to have much more power for the complete trip and even my final hill I raced up. I went up and down it four more times to try to drain the battery before giving up. The next day the battery took 1 hour 20 mins to charge (still much more than it has been of late). I don't know whether it will quickly deteriorate but for now it feels like a new battery!

Hope this is useful for others who feel their battery is drooping!

Pedalo,

Thats great news. My undertsanding is thast Ni-Cad and NiMh cells have a good reputation for recovery and that has been my experience when using them in the RC model environment.

I got really soaked for the first time last night in nearly 3 months since I starting cycling to work. It was like swimming rather than riding. However having battery assist on the Cytronex really made the whole experience far more bearable.

I did notice towards the end of my ride that my lights started to flicker. I need to check if there is a loose connection, though I sorted those all out the other week.

I wonder if there was a short somewhere

It really was raining cats and dogs

Also are those end bar buttons completely waterproof ?

I am guessing they are as certainly in terms of power the Cytronex performed perfectly.

I've been riding my bike in all the rain over the last 2 months and have been drenched on several occasions. I still prefer this to public transport which takes much longer to get to (and more importantly home!) from work. So far it's been utterly reliable and more so than I expected (touch wood). I did have a bit of a flicker with the rear light which was simply fixed by restripping the wires there and refitting them in the B&M clamp connector.

Pedalo,

Thanks for the report. I'll be doing the same to my battery asap.:)

PS. No bike problems with the wet to report. Even the controllers been diving (misjudged a pool).

Just checked my Cytronex and low and behold one of the front light connectors had come loose, again

I wonder if it is because I have the sprung front forks.

Anyway at least I know what it was.
