Just been on the news that Dartmoor national park and tourism chiefs are starting a scheme to have electric bikes ( and electric cars ) waiting at train stations for visitors to pick up and cycle over and around dartmoor, with hotels and B&B's participating in the scheme with charging points etc.
Similar scheme is already going on Exmoor and I know Derbyshire already have it set up.
I presume they mean for next summer.....I lived on dartmoor for years and I certainly wouldnt be up for cycling over there in winter......weather is dreadful sometimes ( most of the winter LOL )........and the sheep and ponies can be lethal :D :D

However its all good e-bike publicity.

That's good, the more schemes like this, the more the general public become aware of e-bikes and their potential.

I also lived on Dartmoor, at Widdecombe on the Moor for a while, but in World War 2 when no-one had cars and we had just one bus a week on Wednesdays into Newton Abbot for shopping.

So we were cut off anyway, regardless of the weather!

I wonder what e-bikes are they supplying. Very good hill climbers would be advisable. Here is a profile of a 35 mile ride I did on a push bike 14 years ago. It was a loop starting and finishing in Princetown, and crossed the East Dart Valley 5 times with slopes up to 20 to 25%.

The height scale is in metres.

Even though I was much fitter then, I was exhausted at the end of that ride.

I think that today even my 3 speed Agattu I would struggle on the steepest hills, but I with maximum assist the remainder could probably be completed without getting too tired or running out of juice in the 18Ah battery.

I have a little BnB in Co Durham and have just enquired about starting it around here, as we have some wonderful cycle tracks and scenery. They are in with Giant.
