An acquaintance of mine wants to buy a couple of ebikes for himself and his wife. He told me that he was considering the G-Tech one but I tried to dissuade him as I don't think it has any gears and might well be useless on hills.

I recommended the Woosh range (I have a couple of them) but it turns out that he hates derailleur gears and I must confess, I'm no great fan either! Is anyone aware of a step-through ebike with enclosed hub gears, what when I was lad we called Sturmey Archer gears.

He's looking for medium priced bikes, either side of £1000 would be ideal.

Thanks.

The Kudos Liberty has Shimano 8 speed hub gears and is great value at £795. See this link

And for a wide range of rider heights, the Kudos Safari, also with the same hub gears costs even less at £695. See this link

Both have long life LiFePO4 Lithium iron-phosphate batteries.

Shimano have long been the major name in hub gears, since for a long time Sturmey Archer disappeared, eventually revived by an Oriental takeover as the Sunrace Sturmey company.
