Apparently there *was* a 750w International version available, even in ireland. Now withdrawn, option crossed out on EP2 Pro. Oops! :-/
250w legal, no throttle, torque sensor now, so...

Legislation is coming for your e-bike: it’s not fair but illegal e-bike conversions and yobbo behaviour could ruin it for us all
"The much-rumoured Bosch power update coming this summer can be taken as a sign that regulation truly is coming though. We hope the rumours really are true, and that riders with a Bosch CX Gen 5 motor will be able to uprate their bike’s power to around 100Nm of torque and 750W of peak power. If that’s the case, ask yourself, why has Bosch stopped exactly at 750W? Is it a lucky coincidence or does it know something about future legislation that the rest of us aren’t privy to? "

Or maybe Bosch are working behind the scenes to implement such legislation so they can get a jump on their competitors. A quick scan through ZIVs website reveals this.

This is just protectionism jazzed up as safety.

Hardly anyone understands the current legislation so adding more layers of complexity should be fun.

It's harmonisation. After many years of being out on a limb, the USA with its three EAPC classes has fallen into line with the EU practice that has become de facto the only world standard for assisted cycling:

Class 1 = Basis EU EAPC with no throttle.

Class 2 = As above with throttle, the equivalent of the 250LPM, meaning like a type approved EAPC, but only accepted as a motor vehicle in EU law.

Class 3 = Speed pedelec, the S class in the EU, a no throttle EAPC capable of assisting to 45kph / 28mph.

The USA still has two differences, 750 watts as the stated power limit for all three classes, instead of the EU's concealed similar permission via Continuous Rated Maximum Power, and 20mph assist limit in lieu of the EU's 25kph / 15.5mph.

37 0f the 50 States have fully accepted the new class law and the minority remainder have partially accepted it, so we largely now have only one international law for assisted cycles.

Which of course facilitates exporting, hence Bosch's interest, but won't please Donald Tariff Trump.

King’s Lynn disqualified driver Rocky Payne caught driving electric bike
"A 41-year-old disqualified driver did not realise he would be breaking the law by riding an electrically modified bike. "
"Officers stopped him and saw that Payne was riding a bike adapted with a battery pack strapped onto the back wheel - making the bike a mechanically propelled vehicle.
Payne was disqualified from driving in 2019 after being found guilty of dangerous driving."

Of course he didn't.

My ad blocker won't let me see the article. Was his motor over 250w? Did he have an independent throttle? Did the bike go faster than 15 mph? What made them say that it was a mechanically propelled vehicle?
I didn't actually read the article but I did ram it through archive.ph but it was 257 in the queue. It should be ready now.

It was my natural cynicism in play

Unfortunately, the journalist couldn't be bothered to learn about the rules for ebikes, so no reason was given. She gave the impression that fixing a battery to the back wheel makes a bike illegal.

The interesting bit was that he was caught on a cycle trail by three plain clothes officers riding bikes, so either they set a trap for him or they were checking all ebikes on that trail.

I'm not expert but I would have thought that strapping a battery to the back wheel would be the worst place to install it. All the wires would get tangled up when you tried to ride it.

DJI announces 1,000W Turbo mode power boost for Avinox motor, just as German bike industry proposes 750W limit
In an apparent snub to potential EU legislation, DJI offers owners of e-bikes with the Avinox motor permanent access to the maximum 1,000w peak power in Turbo mode as a free update.

Surely they're killing that battery?
Impressive to pull 2 men up a steep hill.
How many Nm? And measured where? Mm :-/

Only 172.4kg uphill? No sweat for my 20" wheeled Dahon Helios P8 BBS01B folding bike conversion, but with pedalling, with the controller limited to 15A and 36V battery. Haven't tried the same yet with 20A, I expect it'd be easier and faster, battery permitting.
