These are the Cyclone kits Ben, just marketed by Eclipse. They are not particularly high quality and have waterproofing and corrosion issues, but if proofed can perform ok. About three or four members use the older single chainwheel model in various ways.

They come in various powers, the legal ones are gutless, but the 350 and 500 watt ones are fine for power, though the 500 watt and above do eat the juice.

The batteries Cyclone sell have a very patchy record, you'd probably be better off buying a lithium phosphate one from Li Ping, but make sure it's got a high enough discharge rating for the job.

You have to smile when looking through those pictures on the Taiwan cyclone website... :)

All those custom made brackets, bolts, pinions etc and the tension on the chain is achieved with a cable tie :)

i already have the taiwan website in my favourites , im not sure about the batterys they offer. Thought i might be better off buying the kit from a british supplier with local backup, and a ping battery .Do these kits ever come up second hand? Does anyone rate them over the hub kits?

I agree buying locally makes sense Ben. I've never seen them second hand and the three chainwheel one is too new to be on the second hand market yet. I also don't think them well made enough to risk buying second hand.

Hub kits are better quality, more refined, quieter and less to go wrong, but the Cyclone drive through the gears system suits areas with the steepest hills better.
