Electric bicycle range reaching the 100 mile mark?

As said, no difference so they probably wouldn't bother. Giant have used the same motor and battery combinations through four different models now. Giant don't make anything electrical, only bikes, they've just stuck with using this Birkestrand/Sanyo motor design. The different models are largely marketing smoke and mirrors.

Must be good combo then , because having mine now for over a year & not once has it let me down. between 35 -38 miles averaging out of a full battery not the suggested range but its good enough & that was on the earlier model before the digital display, so just goin by a cheap speedo. Tho havin a look closer at the Escape Hybrid 1 model the motor is different to the front drive one that is not a sanyo is it

Scatty, I think you are at cross purposes. The new Escape model uses a Swiss motor, but it's not the 100 mile range model. A to B may well test the Escape model if it arrives here in the UK. Giant's e-models don't always, we never saw the "Argue" model for example.

The model I was being critical about on range and otherwise commenting on is the Twist with the Sanyo motor, the same one used through four models of the hub motor Twist series.

As for my comments, they were solely on the range of the Sanyo motored model. Giant of Taiwan make superb quality bikes which compare with European production in most respects for quality. They've even introduced improvements to that Birkestrand/Sanyo motor, but it's still not up to the best from other hub motor manufacturers, possibly why they are now trying that other motor.

For what it is worth my 5yr old Giant Suede with the original Sanyo motor is still rolling along. Once I had sorted out the original small niggles, and Giant had supplied a better battery (second one is just starting to show signs of reduced range after 3yrs of very regular use) it has given sterling service. The motor has been trouble free (touch wood) and I no longer notice the slight drag when the motor is not in use. The excellent Giant dealer network is a plus as well.

I know the Suede is a long way from state of the art but, for a recreational bike, it does the job. Takes the pain out of the hills. Next decision, in about 6 months I reckon, will be new bike or new battery. Sometimes its 'better the devil you know'.
