Members must be referring to the fast Moped with pedals in the 70`s that pushed the boundaries too far by doing 60 mph. The pedals were mainly ornaments , this was the Yamaha FS IE , affectionately referred to as the Fizzie . It was legal but prompted changes in the Law .
You would think at a time of high petrol prices and the push for Electric Transport that the Powers that be would be enthusiastic about such machines . These could be the breakthrough that is needed to get more people on E Bikes.
We've got laws and regs in place now for the electric equivalent of bicycles, 50cc mopeds, 125c learner machines, 25Kw restricted and unlimited. I guess the question is whether there's a market for the smaller motorcycle/scooters and whether something can be created that is useful. The problem as ever is mainly battery capacity and range. There are people selling the 50 and 125 equivalent scooters but right now I don't think they have enough range. Vectrix have tried in the 25Kw versions. The other problem is charging if you live in a flat or can't get the bike off road and near enough to your house to reach a mains plug. Interesting to see that Zero are now offering an Electric road M/C with a removable battery.
