It's a great idea, it looks good and it's far better than using a car, but is it zero emissions? Where does the electricity used to charge the battery come from? Zero emissions, no environmental impact and other such phrases niggle me...a bit.

Not to mention the rider's emissions, especially if they've been sampling the sushi.

Seriously though, a great application, and for me the gain isn't only in emission reduction but in reduction of the level of the traffic noise which seriously so pollutes our cities.

Hi Tillson,

I entirely agree that the electricity has to come from somewhere, hopefully in the future more and more of it will come from renewable sources which do not pollute.

Whenever practical, I charge batteries at my home using solar power from the panels on our roof. On a clear sunny day we can reach figures of over 20Kwh.

Getting back to the bike, it has zero emissions on the street compared to the infernal combustion engined scooters also used by the company. Whilst I was in their basement garage, riders were coming and going constantly and in that confined space the noise and fumes were quite unpleasant.
Then when I was outside the restaurant on Marylebone Road trying to enjoy my lunch, it was spoilt by the constant traffic noise and the scooters which come and go from the pavement.

OK, power generation produces emissions but much less than the internal combustion engine and an ever increasing amount of it comes from green sources.

i agree its not zero, but nothing is zero, even if it was delivered by hand, the emissions from the person and from manufacturing their clothing would be zero, but few would describe that as anything but zero emissions.

either way - its great to see this kind of usage, and i'd be happy if i could get my sushi delivered this way

I'm still working on the vendor that uses a couple of "stop me & buy one" type trikes to sell coffee, buns & ice-a-da-creama on the Camel Trail.
Trouble is they only cycle 3 miles out of Padstein along the flat, so I haven't convinced him he needs a couple of John's kits - Yet - In fact, he hides when he see's me coming now...

The guy that works for him occasionally is on my side though

maybe we could build some hills on the flat bits to help out the vendors on the site? add a few hills in and they'll be queueing up.
