I agree with that rationalisation John.
Your middle FAQs link is typical of the sort of difficulties with these. That section is constantly blighted by people posting queries in it, sometimes not even relevant, every section spoiled in this way. Clearly they do not understand the concept of FAQs, that they are a resource for answering common questions, not a place for their individual queries.
Any new FAQ or Guide section will need to be locked, or it will rapidly become useless again.
Although not in the FAQs, here's an example of forum posting indiscipline when posting is permitted. In the "Technical" section which is intended for permanent technical articles, there's a thread titled "Battery Design and Chemistry" which is in fact a request for any information on where there's reviews on battery types. The last but one post in that irrelevant thread is an even more irrelevant question about a crank drive transmission drag problem! I posted asking for clarification on the inquirer's problem and have had no response after a month.
An exercise in useless effort and the hopelessness of asking for voluntary posting discipline. Left to their own devices, people just post anything anywhere. I've always been of the view that the less forums the better, and for me this site has far too many sections that only serve to confuse.
