I haven't visited the forum for quite a while, not out of lack of interest, rather I have been happily riding about on my pedelec - or as I prefer to call it my magic carpet. I bought my Easy Glider in 2008. I was 76 and unable to walk very far at all. The bike, and its technology, transformed my life! For example a routine of a 20km ride every morning into the local village for shopping and a coffee for 4 months in the summer. Amazing.
Now 3 years on and thinking must be needing a new battery soon I went to the Gazelle web site today to find no reference to an Easy Glider in their 2011 line up. Have they stopped making it? If so will I be able to get a replacement battery for my machine? Panic thoughts. Help!

Does your bike have the Panasonic crank drive? For some reason, the thought crossed my mind that it does.

If so, you should have no problem sourcing a battery.

Ps just found one. It is a Panasonic. Try On-bike or 50 Cycles. They deal in Panasonic crank driven bikes, and I'm sure they will be able to assist you.

I'm not sure they make the EasyGlider any more, they've chosen to concentrate on their front hub motor Innergy model.

Some Easy Gliders used the Panasonic 8 Ah battery, some the 10 Ah one. Onbike do both sizes, but check the compatibility with the one you have.

50cycles also do the German made BMZ batteries for these units, but their 8 Ah one may not fit into your frame space on the Gazelle.

The Dutch sources mentioned two kinds of batteries, from 2006-2008 and 2008 onwards. Also that the first number of the frame number is equal to the year in which the Gazelle was made..

Yes, that's the incompatibilty problem I mentioned Alex. I believe it's not just dimensions but the connectors that are different.

Today's 8 Ah batteries from Onbike and 50cycles will not suit if David's one is at the end of the earlier series. This is the latest current series battery base, and davidw may be able to see if his is this or different:

No problem then David. You have the following choices easily available:

From Onbike:

Panasonic replacement batteries in 10 Ah size.

From 50cycles

German made batteries by BMZ in 8 and 18 Ah sizes, shown as Kalkhoff.

Panasonic 10 Ah battery.

Turns out not to be that simple. I contacted Onbike as you suggested and received a very prompt and helpful reply from Phil Key. Yes they do have the 10amh batteries ....but they are not of correct size to fit the Gazelle battery container. So, have now asked Cycle Heaven where I bought the bike if they can help. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for that information David, it's proved difficult to find out exactly what is different about the earlier Gazelles and up until now it appeared to be only 8 Ah batteries involved. With yours having a 10 Ah it seems they made those in the earlier fit as well.

However, is that information definitely correct? You seemed to think the latest 10 Ah battery base that I illustrated was the same.

David,

if Cycle Heaven can't help, there's a place in Crystal Palace called Popiel which deals with Dutch bikes, Gazelle in particular. (Easily found on internet search.)

I shall be interested to learn how you get on as, at some point in the future, I shall probably need a battery and unfortunately, mine is the older, original 7.2Ah (8A) model which was only produced for a few months in 2007 before being superceded by the 10Ah model as fitted to your bike. It may be the case that I will have some difficulty sourcing one of those but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

Best of luck,
Indalo

thank you all for those helpful replies. What a wonderful place this forum is!
Anyway in the end it was easy. I called Cycle Heaven this morning. They don't have 'my' battery in stock but will order one for me today and hope to have it from Gazelle next week.
Incidentally just a plug for Cycle Heaven - a great shop, great helpful staff and a real pleasure to do business with.
