I'm looking for a folding bike to do a conversion using a Vitenso kit and I really like the design of the Giant Halfway 2...but to my surprise I noticed it only has one fork at the front! I expect this would be totally unsuitable for fitting a front hub motor wheel onto?

Yes, completely unsuitable with one fork side at both ends, the intention is easy tyre/tube/puncture access. The single sided forks are a trademark feature of the English designer Mike Burrows, also on his 8freight goods bike and Ratcatcher recumbent. He was contracted by Giant for a long time until they brought all design in-house.

Ahh shame, I really like the design too. I think it's the best of all the 20" folding designs I've seen so far as the cross bar is not so low down. My next choice is probably Dahon Vitesse D7 HG.. do you think that's ok? I initially favoured a 26" folder like the Dahon Cadenza or Espresso but I've since read that some people had problems getting these on public transport especially trains where many operators restrict access to 20" and below.

Tony, check out this: Dahon D7HG Vitesse & Cargo Trailer at Windsor Castle | Flickr - Photo Sharing! :D

I still have 2 Dahon 20inch folders and while they are OK in a motorhome or car boot, not practical for train commuting IMO electric would be even more impractical weight/size wise

The Brompton makes most sense for train travel and they fly along........

I like the Brompton concept but I hate the designs I think they look outdated. I wonder if it's possible to replace the fork on the Giant Halfway.

I like the Halfway too, though perhaps a bit bulky when folded. The headstock looks like it could take another fork but I can't be certain. You may have a Giant dealer nearby with one in stock so that he could advise:

No they are not...you see them flying around the west end they are a brilliant design, I only went for Dahons because they where cheap, I nearly bought a similar Giant at the time but it felt heavier and dealer was Useless.

you really need to try any bike before committing....
