To me the most important thing about midwinter is the solstice, which of course is the 21st of December, only 8 days away. It is interesting to note, that the sunset now, is as early as it gets, and by the solstice will already be getting later. We shall not see earlier sunrises until the 5th of January.
I hope everyone gets to spend some happy time with friends and family.

We of the Friends of Selsdon Woods organisation don't allow bikes in our woods. That's the official line, but in practice we're very happy for responsible cyclists and cycling families to use their bikes.

Have a great trip Eddie. It may be too late to recommend this hotel: Holiday Hotel Cherai, Munambam Road, Cherai P O, Kochi (Cochin) 683514, India. We stayed there two years ago.

Off the tourist route and the town (Cherai) is a little gem. Saw an elephant competition between uptown and downtown: 11 elephants each side, taking part in a variety of tests and displays over two days at the local temple.
One competition simply compared the greatest height each elephant raised their trunk during one hour...

...as far as I could tell.

Hint... before you go, pop into a stationers and buy a load of pencils (maybe even ones with the little rubber eraser on the end), about 60 should do for the trip but you may wish you had taken more

Ahhh and also

If you grab a ride in a rickshaw get the guy to go some where there are no cars.. tell him to stop and get in the back while you have a 2 min go at peddling it, you will find out why rickshaw drivers don't live very long
