I got a rear wheel puncture and took the wheel off to change the tube. Putting it back on was a pain but I managed it. However, when I switch it on the LCD display lights up but the motor won't kick unto life when I pedal it. Also the speedometer isn't working it just sits at zero. What can I have done? It's a rear hub motor bike.

Was it plug in connections that you had to disconnect Jim? If so, try re-plugging them to ensure good connections. Also, if the motor phase wire connections were three separate ones, are you sure they went back on correctly connected?

Jim,you have probably disturbed one of the speed sensors. Try to support the bike so that the driven wheel is free to rotate. The most likely one is the speed sensor on the spokes of the rear wheel. The probe is clamped on a spoke and should sit approximately in the middle of the pick up. make sure the probe faces towards the pick up and also make sure the pick up faces the probe. The pick up is usually held onto the rear arm with 3 tie wraps.
Check this first,by adjusting the probe and the pick up whilst turning the crank to rotate the wheel, the power to the motor should provide drive.
If this fails look at the crank rotating sensor located adjacent to the bottom bracket, check no wires have been disconnected and the pick up has not been displaced. Try adjusting these sensors whilst rotating the crank-mind your fingers in the spokes if the power comes on suddenly.
As the speedo is not working I am sure it is the speed sensor.
Hope that helps
90% of power failures are due to sensors

Thanks to both for your replies:

Flecc, I didn't disconnect any of the wires as there is enough slack to allow the wheel to come out enough to get a tube in/out.

Dave, I've been back out and looked at the speed sensors. The spoke one is still where it was, on the wired part though, the wire is able to be pulled out of the casing, is it just the wire which picks up the signal from the magnet? or is there something in the casing? I may have beggered it if there is. :(

I have a feeling that the wheel isn't in the frame lugs properly as the brakes aren't sitting correctly. I'll go back out in the morning and play around.

I see there is a Kudos dealer in Dundee, if I can't fix it I'll speak to him during the week when I'm off and see if he can fix it for me. It's meant to rain tomorrow so I probably wouldn't be out playing anyway. :)

That's handy to know

Hi Jim,
I'm new to the forum & to ebikes: I was wondering how you feel about the Tourer now, having had yours for a twelvemonth. (I've been lurking while trying to decide what to go for).

I'm pretty much decided on a Kudos Tourer, (particularly as Rally Designs have some on eBay for 762.00 just now), but can't get to try anything before I buy, as I live in Cornwall, the nearest ebike stockist is 80 miles away in Exeter & doesn't stock Kudos anyway!

Did you get the problem sorted?

Sorry to hijack your thread,

Pete

Peter, I love the Tourer. I've been up and down many hills on it and would have another anytime. The problem I had last week was all my own doing and was simply the plug on the cable needing pushed back in properly.
I use mine on full power all the time and it does 30+ miles on a charge. I like the fact it's a full sized bike and also it looks normal.
