I can't confirm it with more concrete information, because if the site owners wish to remain low-key, that's fine by me. However, if you think about it, *somebody* has to finance the site as these things don't pay for themselves especially when there is quite a large throughput, advertising, etc. I can tell you that it's hosted in Germany, though that's hardly useful information and you can see that for yourself if you have the appropriate plug-in on your browser.

The forum software is generally freely available, but hosting of a commercial site costs money. If you click on the pedelecs logo top left of the screen you will go to the site front page (what you see before you come to the forum). You'll still be none the wiser, though.

I'm also fairly sure that if I were talking rubbish Flecc would have jumped on it before now.

In my naivety, I thought that the retailers and manufacturers collectively financed the hosting of the site through advertising and that the owner(s) put it all together as some sort of generous gift to mankind.

With that misapprehension shattered, I still think it’s the best forum on the web.

I haven’t taken the hint on who is behind it all and my brain is beginning to hurt a lot now.

I honestly know nothing about this. All I know is that Russell Scott, who I don't think has a bike dealer connection, started the site around August 2006 and with no members at that time got in touch with me since he had seen my Torq website. He was an e-bike owner, using a Torq to commute to his workplace. His contact was to ask for my help with his pedelecs site, which I did by having a pedelecs introduction page on my e-bike websites and a link on the homepages direct into these Forums, plus joining as the first member and making the introductory post in this forum. Meanwhile Russell worked with Google to get better search recognition for the Pedelecs site which also brought in many new members.

Actually, I think I may have to withdraw my assertion about this site being affiliated to a dealer - I can't find the reference to it anywhere, so although you can't see it I'm suitably red-faced and embarrassed....

There is no suggestion that anyone other than Russell personally registered the site in the first place, and although I do know he designs web sites for others that's all there is to it.

No need to be so serious it is obviously a joke in response to Phils blatant effort.

I think the statements are both on par for subtleness. I did not think it would fool anyone.

Instead of trying 15 bikes just try one. Surely that does not sound like the best advice to be taken seriously.

I didn't know anything either way other than what I posted above, so you could have been right, but I was intrigued with your mention of both Germany and a dealer connection. Nothing like a mystery to spark interest.
