Is dipping a chain in hot liquid wax still done?

Some still do, or in some cases they use either a standard grease or one of the speciality greases meant for this purpose.

It's mostly regularly done with part used chains after washing out with paraffin and drying, mainly to get the maximum life out of the chain.

The photo of Hengistbury Head struck a bit of a chord with me as I live right there, well about a quarter of a mile from that spot shown.
I'm often there at about 9 or 10 at night walking the dog, 1 x West Highland Terrier. It's a good place to live, though I think I would, after having lived there for some 40 years, boy and mouse, I mean man, would like a change really, and I've always loved Devon.
I have e biked along the Bournemouth prom several times, but though it's very pleasant I'm personally a bit put off by all the people there, walking, playing footie, and the sand can be a bit of a problem, one of the few times I've fallen off any bike was on some sand, though I was feeling grotty at the time with a heavy cold, so my ability to keep full balance was a bit impaired, that's my excuse anyway.

I use this stuff, which I suppose is the modern equivalent - lifts the dirt from the chain too

I have been very impressed with the Halfords Bikehut dry teflon lube. Seems to do the trick, is dry and clean. Only time will tell how the chain wears!

As for riding on the prom being busy, it's nice early in the morning on a week day. In the afternoon when the sun is out the first 100m from Bmth peir is very busy. The few patches of sand can be an issue. Had a few sketchy moments but found that throttling through without peddliing seem the best option.
