When I was a kid (13 years old) I cycled from Amsterdam to Arnhem, with a strong headwind all the way, and the bike weighed down with luggage. We stayed in Arnhem for a couple of days whilst the wind changed, and then rode back across Holland to The Hague - straight into a strong headwind again. A few good hills might have broken up the wind a bit.
As it was, it was one of the hardest tours I ever did, and I respect any Dutchman/woman who gets on an ordinary bike. :)

Yes, winds are a real problem in flat countries, nothing to break their strength.

As for helmets, the Dutch don't bother with them either, even in the large areas they have where there are no cycle lanes, contrary to popular belief.

Something quite soothing & inspiring about watching that video with the volume turned down. I would love to live in a more cycle tolerant area, thanks for posting this.

if you turn the volume up however (and take into account the video is speeded up) I reckon you can hear a fair few ebikes amongst the rest

Riding through Bermondsey this morning didn't look much different to that video, at one point I could count over twenty riders on the bit of road in front of me.
I don't like lots of pushbikes on the road, things get cluttered and unpredictable. :( On the good side of things the car drivers were patient and allowed the bikes to weave all over the dual carriageway.

Did you see the cheeky guy who goes onto the pavement to get around the crowd at the lights? :D

Was it you?
By the police station there is a cycle path that does just that but I always forget about it, there's a crossing on the other side where the cycle path does the same thing, strange planning.
