Is there anyway to block certain users posts from appearing with this forum software?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it's possible to 'block' certain users posts from appearing when I visit this forum? Bit of a long shot I know but worth a go before I give up!

Cheers,

Daz

Not me, but I have a feeling I know exactly who Dazzie's referring to.
I was going to post something about it earlier but Dazzie's put it much much better than I would have. ;)

User Control Panel, then Buddy/Ignore lists, may do it.
The danger though is that you would still see any replies to the ignored posts.

Another way might be for Russ to disallow all postings between midnight and 2 am.

:D

He seems harmless enough if not a little eccentric. From some of the posts that he has made, he is obviously delighted with his bike and getting a lot of enjoyment from it which is no bad thing.

It is a bit of a niggle though when all the threads that you are interested in have been shunted onto page two because of the ramblings.

I'm also getting increasingly annoyed with the way these disruptive posts mess up the forum posts order. It does seem a characteristic that this is done late at night, the Dienamics ones recently being similar in posting pattern, and there have been others previously.

Alcohol could well be an element in this posting pattern, judging by the "quality" of the posts content.

Unfortunately blocking the posts still leaves the thread sequences disrupted with old spent items needlessly brought to the fore.

There's a definate "trigger" involved.....and I think Flecc just Inadvertently touched it.

I may have been responsible for a recent activation.

I have a feeling I'll find an irisistably funny activity to do next time I have a tipple.
Hopefully not.

Many of us don't find it funny to rake up threads often from months earlier just to post inane comments, and it's probably offputting to prospective members looking at the forum.

It's taken us over two years to top 1800 members, and 21% of them are no longer active, a high desertion rate, so the forum cannot afford anything that impedes an increase in membership and retention of existing members. For long term viability we really need a far greater membership.

We are gaining some humorists though, a recent new member signing in as Chief eZee Power. :)

That's what I thought at first, but the Chief has made zero posts so far.

I now have you to blame for a new hobby! I wondered about your email, as I have posted late at night (early morning actually) but a little investigation led me to another conclusion....

I now sometimes (often actually) click on a recent post and then look at that member's previouse posts. Can be very informative, (Flecc, Alby, Tiberius, Keithhazel, Mussels, Blew it, Phil the drill, etc....), and some funny ones.

But I can see how posts can be disruptive (hope this one isn't) and they make it clear that wisdom and alcohol very rarely go hand in hand.

Absolutely not Tom. :)

I think it's not so much a matter of disruptive posts as a very occasional disruptive poster, something that all forums are victims of.

Hence the title of this thread:

Is there anyway to block certain users posts from appearing with this forum software?

It's almost invariably an individual who fairly consistently posts in an annoying manner, rather than individual posts from those who normally post without giving annoyance.

I blame the "Care in the community" policy". :D

I'm in the community and I don't care. That is I think this forum has to be one of the friendliest and least controversial sites I've ever accessed. Personally speaking great site and very polite. Odd bit of friction and off the wall comments don't bother me at all. Spices the whole thing up. :)

I fully agree and have no objection to the "odd bit" from various users, but consistent irritation from one user as in willfully disrupting the post pages I'm not happy with since it can ultimately damage what you rightly say is a unique forum which we all value highly.

as a high percentage posts i do are none informative but merely "willfull" i see it totally from your perspective as to spend time talking in an informative manner, spending time thinking, giving technical data..and then to have someone jest off topic is crass and sometimes im embarressed even while im posting...however that lasts about 10 seconds and then i recover  ...BUT...we all like a joke as long as its on the topic of e-bikes..so what if there is a topic thread that is just for letting off steam..and then we try and keep the other thread topics on track........:)
