It had to happen at some time. The sun was shining and I was enjoying the commute into work off road without a care in the world when a well kitted out Lycra Cyclist on a nice fast looking bike overtook me while I was in medium assist travelling about 23mph:eek: Intrigued I just kept behind him even though I had to slow down. After a mile and a half we both slowed down to turn into the park and another first, the Lycra Clad lad started speaking to me. He said he experienced a strange affect when he tried to overtake me that he had never experienced before with any other cyclist and he was a bit confused why he had never been able to get passed.:D
The strange affect was that his speed increased from 20mph to about 23mph when he was in my slip stream. He found it very heavy going when he pulled in front of me and I was in his jet stream. He had not noticed the battery or the motor on the ProConnect S. When I told him it was a pedelec he was very inpressed with the bike because it was the only bike that streched his normally fast pace. I commented about the other advantages and he had to agree he was sweating while I was still fresh.:)
I have now seen ten electric bikes while out and about, but once the word gets round the Lycra Brigade that the fastest bike in town is a Kalkhoff, I can bet that I will come across many more in the next couple of years.

All experienced riders that I've met are impressed or intrigued by the Wispers, derision seem to come from people who don't or rarely cycle. I only really speak to long distance commuters so it's not a balanced survey, weekend warriors might be much worse.

Same experience as Mussels, the regular cycle sport riders and professionals who train in my riding area are very friendly and interested in e-bikes, I've chatted to a number of them. It's the part time wannabees who are the snobs.

Same here. I got most of the "that's cheating" abuse from those that only ever drive to work - quite a lot of it too.

The regular cyclists however have been more pleasant and shown a lot of interest.

The 'that's cheating' brigade are a strange lot. They are obviously insecure in their abilities whereas the regular ones know where they stand and why they cycle.

I think there's pattern of character trait there. I noticed when I first went to work as a photographer in Fleet Street, it was the top names of the time who would chat and give me good advice. The bottom of the heap ones would ignore me or be purposely unhelpful. I was a threat to them, or they thought so at least.

I've always tried to be generous with help and advice. We all have bad luck and the more people who feel good towards you the better when it happens.
