Looking over my Izip Ezgo i found a little yellow sticker on the rear brake next to the motor which points to a small screw and says ''Insert grease'',also ''gets hot''.I have not put grease in this hole yet as my gut instinct tells that grease and brakes dont go well together,if anyone owns one of these bikes could they have a look on theirs and advise me what to do,i want to keep it well maintained but not at the expense of doing more harm than good.

It's a band brake Brian, a rather crude but cheap to make device. It consists of a steel drum around which is wrapped a steel band, the lower end anchored, the upper end pulled on by the cable. Applying the brake causes the band to tighten around the drum due to the forward motion and slow the wheel.

It follows that they can and do squeal, when a little grease can stop the noise for a while. Not any old grease though, a low temperature grease could catch fire due to friction.

Shimano do a suitable one for their roller brake, here's the part numbers:

Roller brake grease

10 grams Y-041 40020

100 grams Y-041 20400

A good bike shop can get it for you, or if knowledgeable on these rarely used brakes they may have an alternative grease.

If not squealing, don't grease it yet.
