Following some very good advice from member here I've just finished fitting my 500w 36v kit which arrived from Hong Kong over the past couple of days (thanks DHL for turning a simple 2 box delivery into a farce!).

After nipping out to my local JE James for a crank puller and other bits and bobs I was able to fit it with no issues at all. The kit really did contain everything I needed to fit it with possibly the exception of cable ties.

The 15aH battery supplied with the kit fitted my frame nicely and it all works brilliantly. I had time for a very quick ride last night which was only a couple of miles, but even at 21st the kit made it an utter breeze, including up a decent gradient hill. I'm very much looking forward to commuting on it next week!

I bought this kit:

I'd have preferred to have ordered from Whoosh, but they had no CD kits in stock so I was forced to head to Asia. I ordered on the 20th of august and it theoretically would have arrived on September the 3rd had DHL not cocked up.
The seller communicated well with me over despatch times and customs charges.

So far a very positive entry into the world of electric bikes!

How long is that bottle battery? Can you measure the aluminium tube bit? The ad says 15Ah, but normal bottle batteries are 10s4p configuration that would mean 3.75Ah cells, which don't exist. You'd need 50 cells, which would make the battery about 25% longer than a normal one. It's difficult to tell from your photo how long it is.

I make it 375mm. You're worrying me now, hope I've not been miss sold!

Just re-read your request - the ali tube segment of the bottle is 300mm in length, excluding the plastic dome section.

It's 215mm for a normal 40 cell battery. Add on 65mm for another layer and 5mm spacer for the wires and that would bring you to 285mm, so you have a 50 cell one. You're lucky you have a big triangle. It's quite rare for those big ones to fit. Here's a 40 cell one that had about 1mm to spare in a common Specialized frame.

I did buy the bike frame according to my ample physique ;-) There's loads of room in the triangle, I may even be able to fit a water bottle too!

I've done a trial ride to work today, 10 mile round trip with some fairly hefty hills. It was a breeze!
Afterwards it took my 2A charger under 4 hours to top the battery up so it used approximately half of my 15ah battery if my maths is right.

That's a lovely margin for laziness for those days when I finish my 12h+ shift and want to use the throttle a bit more!

Over the moon with this kit, I really am!

It depends on the courier and what the supplier writes on the paperwork. It's not a fixed amount. Typically about £30 for the motor, more if you order a battery too.

That sounds quite reasonable, will be taking the plunge soon i think, just cant decide whether to bother with a 52 or 50v battery over a 48v one, difference in power output seems minimal..

anyone aware of a UK supplier at similar cost, preferably with higher power sammy battery (at higher cost!)

Anyone aware of any bikes available in UK already fitted with this drive unit, again preferably with bigger sammy

I understand Aldi do the lower powered motor fitted to a bike, conforming to Euro regs - need a specialist importer - bike could be a sort of hybrid MB cross - off road ability but large frame upright riding position

Bit of a thread necro here, but I thought I'd report back a couple of years on.
Sadly I haven't used it nearly as much as I should have due to my work location changing on a daily basis and due to the kit I have to transport it simply wasn't an option by bike much of the time.
All told I've done about 300 miles which is pretty poor.

I've only had two problems since the crank arm issue (which may have been my fault anyway).

1). The bolt holding in the crank arm kept loosening. Sorted with some thread lock.

2). The fuse in the battery blew last week. As yet I cannot work out what rating to replace it with as the fuse is not stamped. It is 20mm X 5mm. Any suggestions on what rating it needs to be? I believe 25a is the max rating for the motor but am not sure about the battery.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Another question is when to service, and who can I get to do it as I don't trust myself!

Things at work are changing next month so I plan to be using it daily which I'm really looking forward to.
I am very glad I chose that kit and that I built it myself.

Re servicing, there`s not much to do really, you could check there`s enough grease on the final metal drives, put some aircraft spec on the cogs.
The left crank will loosen off, you really need to stand on the spanner to get it tight enough.

30a fuse, if you go lower it will pop if 25a is asked. It is there to protect the controller from current surge.

I use the next rated fuse above the amp rating needed, if it pops then go to the next rated one.

Well annoyingly today the fuse popped again at exactly the same point in my ride home. Strangely it wasn't on a hill but on the flat.

So the consensus is to whack a larger rated fuse in then?

I'd put a 30a in. 40a next?
