kalkhoff agattu flying batteries

hello everyone.
my partner has recently bought a kalkhoff agattu as a replacement for her synergie mistral. the bike has so far been reliable. but today the battery decided to fly off half way through her 6 mile journey to work. she always makes sure the battery is secure, listens for the click of the lock and checks by wiggling it back and forth several times. but today the battery ended up in the road. luck would have it there was no traffic or people around. the battery seems to be ok but very battered . this kind of problem would not have happened on the synergie or my wisper because they are caged. im worried because i have just bought a pro connect s. the thought of 400 quids worth of battery weighing 4kg flying off into the road or onto the pavement hitting a pedestrian is worrying. has this happened to anyone else?
i think a bungie will have to be used to keep the battery secure.

Hello, sorry to hear about the battery taking flight, I hope it's OK.

I don't think we've ever had a battery pack part company with a bike before, and some of these bikes spend their lives going in and out of the nation's potholes. It's important when inserting the battery to make sure it's fully home and clicks into place. Was the key still inserted when the battery fell out?

hello tim yes the battery was fully home, and the click was heard. no key was left in the lock.

I've never had this happen in two years of ProC ownership and a fair few thousand miles.

If the battery wasn't inserted properly, I don't think the thing would work.

Have you tried putting the battery on the bike, grabbing the carry handle on top of the battery and giving it a good shake? If the lock is faulty you will probably be able to replicate the problem.

The good news is that the battery function will not be harmed, the type of soft polymer cells used will withstand any case impact.

I've also never come across a battery detaching accidentally on this series. The early unit used on the Lafree bikes with it's very different battery lock mounting could suffer that on rare occasions, but the improved locking arrangement on these later units seemed to have ruled that possibility out.

Looking at mine, apart from the entire lock disintegrating and the innards falling out, I don't see how the battery could fall off.

If the innards fell out, the battery wouldn't be replaceable in the holder, of course.
