KT Current Controller

Featured Replies

Hi all, I need some help choosing a controller upgrade. I often see saneagle recommending KT controllers and here is one I'm interested in:

48V Ebike KT Controller 35A 1500W Electric Bike Square Wave 12-FET UK | eBay

Yes, it's 35A for 1500W, yes, I have a 40A BMS. Maybe I'm using this to run a barley mill in my back garden?

I am looking for a controller specifically with current throttle control which I thought the KT controllers have. However, every listing says: Speed Setting: 1-4.2V. Which makes me think its a speed controller that just alters voltage when the throttle is turned. I have this set up already and hate how clumsy this is.

I want the feel of an analogue motorbike throttle that increases power to the, er, barley mill, not something that gives max current to a set speed/voltage then cuts out at each quarter turn.

As a side note my controller is silent and it would be nice to keep that feature.

We recommend KT controllers because of their excellent pedal assist function. The throttle function is the same as any other controller.

IIRC, Grin Technologies sell controllers that can be set up with current control for the throttle. Have a look at their Phaserunner programmable controller.

Ah yes, well I'll probably leave it then as its not worth £300+ to me. Thanks for your help anyway.

The 1 to 4.2V range is the controller's expectation of the voltage signal provided by the throttle. Using extremes that are not 0V and 5V means a variety of error conditions can be identified and handled appropriately.

This is completely separate from the control algorithm any particular controller might use.

"Torque simulation" seems to be what I'm after. Anyone have experience with these? Will the torque simulation work on the throttle and not just PAS levels?

No , throttle is basically a thumb switch . On or off, basic speed control.

Controller isn't programmed for power graduation via a thumb throttle only via PAS for which it is excellant.

Torque Simulation means you get a different power on each pedal assist level - nothing to do with the throttle.
