While walking past a bike shop today in Saffron Walden, I caught sight of what was obviously an electric bike but minus its battery. I stopped for a closer look and saw that it was a Giant LAfree model, something I've only ever seen in pictures before. I have no idea whether it was for sale or there for repair but it looked really old-fashioned to my eye.

The bike was in great condition but I didn't have time to pop into the shop to enquire about it. I'm not sure if the LAfree, great ebike in its time, can still cut it today but I'm sure somebody who reads these pages must still have one. I remember Flecc saying he had owned one or had used one.

It may have been the old SLA battery model shown at the top of my website history page, and I've never owned one of those. That heavy and unpopular bike was replaced by the light NiMh models shown, also styled for Giant Bicyle by the Dutch Lafree company, but very much better. I did own one of those.

Ah! Now seeing the models in sequence, I can confirm Flecc that it was the oldest SLA battery type. I don't think I'll be buying one any time soon!

Perhaps one day, there'll be a classic ebike market as with old cars.......nope, I still don't want one.
