Long day break or short weekend away.

Hello to my loving people,

Can someone kindly help me here? If or when the weather warms up a little, I would like to hop on a train with my ebike ,obviously heading away out from London to somewhere nice for the day or for a short weekend. When the bike is fully charged and by me assisting the motor I could squeeze maybe 30-40 miles on a single charge. Any suggestions?

Do you think that I should plan for a short weekend away somewhere nice? Any suggestions? Please remember taking into account that I can park my bike safely somewhere in or out of the hotel, I would prefer in the hotel so that I can get to sleep properly without any worries.
I'm sure that there are many places to ride to and see showing off beautiful greenery.
Remember nothing extravagant, just something simple and relaxing. I say no more you all know where I am coming from.

Favour the weekend,the midst of Suffolk,heading for the coast at Southwold could be a good destination, plenty of accommodation on offer.

Or more rural bedfordshire, heading of Bedford ,going north.

You don't say where from London you are?

Try the New Forest Mountainsport......loads of cycle paths through the forests and lots of small hotels where your bike would be safe.

I love camping there for the cycling, you can go for miles.

It would have to be for a weekend though.
You could travel down on the Friday, late afternoon, and have 2 nights/days to enjoy yourself, it also looks like the weather is set to improve now......so, on yer bike and send us pics....enjoy

Why not try a long weekend and come further north to Durham. I know a nice BnB thats ebike friendly and is sat among the most amazing cycle tracks going.

We need to know what part of London you will be emerging from, North, South, East or West at least and preferably the Borough. Having to cross London to start such a journey wouldn't leave you getting very far away.

Why not try a long weekend and come further north to Durham. I know a nice BnB thats ebike friendly and is sat among the most amazing cycle tracks going.

I wonder if you could start a separate thread re. EBike friendly BnB. Maybe others can add to it. Perhaps it could link in with the charging thingy.

To be quite frank with you all, 30-40 miles of riding is not really that long and that figure will obviously decrease after climbing a couple of light or even so more with step hills.
Therefore, I am thinking more and more coupled with your help, leaning towards the short weekend break away which to me feels like a safer and realistic bet. And you are totally right, it would be really nice for us at least once a year to meet up somewhere for a short weekend break. One of my dreams is to meet up with 50-100 fellow ebike lovers during the summer period and just have the time of our lives.
Who seconds that??

I'd say you were bang on with the new forest suggestion (although maybe thats unfair to the northern folks) its a great location though with load of varying length and difficulty rides.

No its not really unfair , every possible location will be a bit of a trek for lots of others, there are some great campsites in the New forest where you just camp up amongst the trees, have a barbie, walk to the pub (s) and cycle to your hearts content.
Probably safer for weather and easy access from the SW as well as SE and midlands....it would be a holiday after all, so worth travelling for.

Just think, if someone would take on the organising of this, lots more of us could meet up face to face and it would be great to know each other better when chatting on here afterwards and we could all learn a lot too.

No trade stands just maybe trying each others bikes, bit of tech talk, I would organise a shopping trip for us women members and wives one afternoon, plenty rides, plenty drinking.....

However, we can be open to other locations for a bike/camp fest.

Difficult to firm up dates suitable for the majority though, as I found out whilst trying to get the waskerley way ride going in Durham, I think that will have to wait till Im actually living up there.
Nothing to stop those other north easterners from doing it without me, though I would be really to miss it.

So.......anyone.......mountainsport ? You sort of started this.....care to see if there is any interest ??

Can I suggest a destination for that meeting? How about a nice little town called Hollister?
Being serious for a moment, if you want good distance from your battery, don`t forget the Fens . You can bike from Cambridge to Lincoln without seeing a hill.

Hi Neptune, that sounds even better for me, there is no need for me to test my bike on hills, I just want to experience something nice and easy going ,how about the sleeping arrangements? If I decide to stay over.

For those who did not understand the Hollister reference, Google Hollister, The wild One.

The Fens. There are no doubt hotels in the bigger towns such as Cambridge, Ely, Kings Lynn, Wisbech Holbeach, Boston , Woodhall Spa, and Lincoln. There are plenty of cycle routes, including National cycle Route one, the fen part of which goes from Kings Lynn to Lincoln. There are also smaller Bed and Breakfast places in smaller places, and out in the sticks, but plan and book in advance. The area is very similar to Holland, and much of the fens was reclaimed from the sea by Dutch engineers. South Lincolnshire is actually called Holland. Avoid major trunk roads. They are narrow, lots of HGVs and not bike friendly. At times, the fens are windy. Why not use Google street view to take a look?

If you want a nice pleasent ride with the odd pub and B & B thrown in + normally level riding, then try a few of the canals tow paths you can alway break your journey and come off the tow path to investigate any of the local villages or sites of interest you may come across.

Thank you Bob, that even sounds more relaxing to me for some reason. Have you already experienced this type of ride through the canals tow paths? PLEASE ANSWER ME B4 LYNDA DOES.
