Yesterday Mayor George Ferguson lead by example by purchasing an electric bike from a local business ‘Atmosphere Electric Bikes’ to help him with his duties across the City.

The electric bike will help him with his travelling the City of Bristol in a number of ways, and fits in perfectly with his plans for the future of the City:

• Massive reduction in Carbon use, which will help achieve the Green City targets of 2015

• Using two wheels around Bristol saving on parking and congestion

• Being able to travel anywhere in the city fast and economically using the latest electrically powered bikes

The Mayor bought his bike using the cities local currency the ‘Bristol Pound’, which supports independent businesses, makes communities stronger and builds a local economic model that helps people and planet.

Alastair from Atmosphere said "We are very pleased to be able to supply the latest technology for our Mayor here in Bristol and look forward to him leading the way for Bristolians!"

The Bike

The bike chosen by the Mayor as best bike for the job from the extensive range at Atmosphere was a Riese & Muller Bluelabel Cruiser bike made in Germany and distributed in the UK by Wisper Bikes.

This is the latest technology using a Bosch designed and manufactured motor and battery system. The bike works by measuring the pressure you put on the pedals as you ride and converting that into a variable level of help as needed.

“These intelligent torque sensor bikes feel like you are riding an ordinary bike but are now like superman up Bristol hills”

A far cry from the days of mayors being chauffeured around in Rolls Royces which was so common at one time.

They'll be wearing anodised plastic chains of office next!

Please don`t take this the wrong way good Citizens of Bristol but I hope they supplied him with a good lock as well . Would Fowlers of Bristol take Bristol Pounds in payment for a nice Piaggio Beverly 350 Scooter ? The present conversion rate is 1 Welsh Pound to 4 Bristol Pounds .
