Going back to the mid drive and torque part of the discussion, for serious off road use you would not use a 28T lowest gear. Typical mtb cassettes these days are 50T or a few more, which multiplies your 28T torque figure by 1.8.

Keep that in mind if your hub mods don't get you what you want.

What I have started to do is to change the 7 speed cassette from 28-14T to 28-11T and the main cog from 52 to 42. If I have my sums right, this should give me the same ratio for road use (which I currently like) and improve my hill climbing by 1.25. Not quite right but close. Concerning changing the current limit on the controller. I can see the copper loop on the controller and can reducing it's resistance. Is a 30% reduction a good start?

Starting to change the gearing, etc, as suggested and discovered the motor details under the cassette. It is as follows "Permanent magnet brushless high speed hub motor used for electric bicycles ZL 2003 2 0123400.9"
Does that suggest that I can increase the current by 30% or so, at my own risk of course?
You can increase the torque of all Oxygen bikes by 30%, so yes.
