At almost double the capacity, it must at least weigh a good bit more.......How have they managed to create an 18 Ah battery the same size of the 10 Ah one?

At approx £200 more then standard battery? I can see this being a very popular choice on a new bike.......High power riding all the way!

I'm no expert on battery construction, but it appears the 18 ah battery will use Boston-Power 'Swing' cells with an energy density of 420 watt-hours per litre.

Claimed to give 1000 charge cycles at 100% depth of discharge, 2000 charge cycles at 90% depth of discharge. What is more important to leisure riders, is how these cells will be effected by calender ageing.

SWING CELLS

EDIT: 10-15 years calendar life

Thanks Bob, so they should hopefully have a longer warranty then the normal 2 years one then.......

That's a good price Jim, but only if there are no problems. Trying to pursue a warranty issue with a German speaking ebay source could be a huge problem. Paying the normal price through official agents like 50cycles has invariably resulted in prompt attention and satisfaction on any issue with these batteries.

Nice find. Not sure about the guarantee. I suppose that if it is Panasonic, it will be covered by some sort of international guarantee?

.......Orders and ship-to-addresses outside of the Federal Republic of Germany are not accepted
Ahh, I see. The price of £395 must be a special one for all of us mugs here on Treasure Island.

We investigated these Panasonic battery prices around two years ago. Japan was much cheaper then, but after going into the possibility of personal import from there we concluded it wasn't worth it.

At that time elsewhere the lowest price retail source was 50cycles, cheaper than any continental source by as much as over £100 for the 10 Ah. BikeTec were predictably the most expensive.

Kalkhoff : New exclusive Kalkhoff 18 Ah battery launched

Seems like the weight for 18ah is 3.1 kg. Nice little swipe at flyer too :)
when you constantly read of the frugal, somewhat nervous use of 10Ah batteries, low and medium power use being the norm. That a range of an S model can be 60km (40 miles) is VERY good news, and I will def be changing to a Panasonic bike next year if this pans out....

Looks like it, of course the S versions must have number plates in Germany and Switzerland, the only two places in Europe where they can be legal.

If we ever legalise them in the UK (unlikely), they'll be number plated too.

26v 10Ah battery. Other Japanese stores are still around the £250 mark. I think that using a Japanese personal shopping service for transhipment from the Japanese supplier you could get one landed in this country for just over £300. I guess you then take your chances with customs.
I've not yet found the 18Ah battery in Japan.

I understand that it's a German BMZ battery, the supply through Derby Cycles gmbh who make Kalkhoff and some other brands.
